High School Scouting

Please point me in the right direction - scouting reports ? I see high school football teams scout their opponents, high school basketball teams do as well. Is there any scouting going on as far as softball is concerned ? If so what are you looking for ?

I expect DD team to be dismal this year - looking for any advantage there is.

I did quite a bit of scouting of teams my daughter hs could be facing in the state tournaments they played in. I tracked the pitcher tendencies and pitch location as well as keeping a scatter chart on the batters and where they hit vs pitch location.

Didn't always go over well as some of the teams knew who I was. Even got the comment once of "you must really be afraid of us if you came all the way over here to scout us.". Maybe they should have been equally afraid of us and done their own scouting because we beat them.

You can check out Max Preps and Gamechanger. If the teams use them you can see who's hitting and who's not.

We film the first game against teams in our area to use in the second match up and also the area tourney. We play our area games home and home on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the girls watch film on Wednesday. Any edge even when it might be small can help win a close game.

Top teams in our HS conference tend to scout each other.

Locally the girls on the best High School teams all know each other and most of our High School coaches are also involved in travel. It isn't so much scouting but most of our players go watch their travel teammates play
and the coaches go see their current players not on their HS team and so on.

There isn't too many secrets out there locally to be on honest.

We never throw our #1 in the preseason against teams we may face in region or state tourney. No since in giving them free looks. We will play a lot of subs if these teams aren’t throwing their #1 to keep teams from getting a book on our hitters. Everyone knows everyone in district so there’s not many secrets there.

At our HS AC knows some other ACs and he gets info from those ACs re: teams they have played. Sometimes that works well and sometimes it makes no difference whatsoever.
