What did you guys use for the surface of the outdoor batting cage? Is the surface just grass or did you do something different?

I bought some used low-profile turf from a reseller I found online. It's one of the best decisions I made. The cage is usable very quickly after a rain storm. Some of my friends with dirt floor cages are out of action for a day or two usually.

I made batters box's out of heavy rubber mats, that are spiked down beside the burried home plate. They're the same size as a regulation batters box. The pitchers rubber is a permanent, buried model with a 7' long 3' wide piece of rubber mat also spiked down in front of it.
Then there is a smaller scrap piece of the rubber I spiked down right where I stand to front toss. The rest of the cage is grass... It's a little tricky to get my mower in there, but overall the headache of mowing is a small price to the benefits.

I have an indoor cage in my shop. It is 50’ long, 12’ Wide, 12 tall. We pitch and hit. You can easily get by with a 60x10x10. I wish I had built my shop 5’ longer, it would help me on pitching. I bought reclaimed football field turf for the flooring.
