I have a GoPro camera, but if I connect the GoPro to my cell phone via WiFi I still have to use Periscope or FaceBook on my phone to broadcast the game which means I cannot be using my phone for other things during the game. I was wondering if I took my old Galaxy S7 cell phone and connected it to my new phone via WiFi Hotspot if I could use it to broadcast the game? I think my DD's games this weekend will be broadcast somewhere, but just in case I want to be prepared.

You can. However, I have found that the phones heat up rather quickly and go into a fail safe mode. I only have luck when using my phone to record and stream if it is out of the direct sun.

Maybe I could use an umbrella to screen it from the sun. I was not planning to mount it on the backstop, was planning to use a tripod with a cell phone mount.

DD's coach use his DD's iphone to Facebook Live all of our games. I use the GoPro to provide game videos for recruiting. We both use a LyncSpider to hang on the fence.

If you are doing a double header, you’ll need a quick charge battery stick of some sort. I do good to get one high school game on a full phone charge. Me and another Dad usually take turns at tournaments and are quick charging while the other is broadcasting. We also had to use a closed group on periscope at state tourney due to broadcasting rights of the TSSAA. If we went public at state it would have been a hefty fine! If you do a periscope public broadcast, disable comments. Trust me on this one!

Does Facebook Live save the footage for watching later?

I want to stream our home games this year, but I also want a chance to watch them later. Trying to figure out if a phone/Facebook live stream is enough or if I'll need a second camera just for recording.

A GoPro uses memory cards you could use to record the games.

FB saves them for a limited amount of time. Periscope videos are there until you delete them I believe. I’ve got some 9 months old that are still there.
