Ask for access to School gym? And as far as her being a top B player, why not challenge her a bit with an "A" team? She might surprise you and be very competitive at A.

Turns out I have to have General Commercial Liability Insurance to use the school facilities. I am trying to find a few other parents in town to form a non-profit organization where everyone would be willing to chip in for the insurance, and facilities costs.

She tried out for the local "A" team during the summer of 2016, didn't get an offer. Even if she did, I have a disability that prevents me from traveling as much as the "A" demands.

We hit off the tee and I front toss wiffles (behind a bownet) in our garage.

I am trying to convince her to hit wiffles off a T onto the garage door, the garage that was converted into an extra bedroom before we bought the house. She says she does not want to chase after the balls rolling into the street. I'm thinking maybe she should set up some picnic table benches to stop the balls from rolling away.

Only thing a person can do is work as hard as they to achieve their goals. If you do that, whatever the outcome, you will not have any regrets later in life.

Edit: Just saw your post about no basement/garage. Have her take dry swings somewhere in the house. When I was growing up in MA, we didn't have a basement and we had a 1 car garage with no room. When I wasn't playing hoop, I would take a 100 swings with a weighted bat and another 100 with my game bat. Not sure it did any good but at least I felt like I was doing something and confidence in your abilities is half the battle sometimes....

I will tell her about the bat suggestion.

Cat Osterman was described by several people, including herself, as "completely average in every possible way" until she was 16.

Can your DD play in the Olympics or be a D1 athlete? I have no idea. I do know for certain, however, that is she thinks she can't she will be right.

Oh, she is determined to play D1. I love her effort and determination. She was hitting in a local outdoor turf batting cage yesterday. She said it was no problem that she had to brush away the snow before she set up her tee.

I really encourage you to watch some D1 games that aren't on ESPN in June. Your daughter may never be good enough for Oklahoma (or she might!). But there's a whole wide world of D1 that ain't OU.

I think there were 295 D1 softball schools last year. That's a lot of schools! Try to find a MEAC or SWAC game (no offense to anybody who has a DD who plays in those conferences!). I think you'll see a pretty big difference between what you see with the SEC/Pac-12 schools and what you see with those. And, of course, there are some excellent schools on the lower end of D1 softball competition.

Verbose way of saying: Your daughter might be better than you think, and not all D1 is created equal.

We live 10 minutes away from a CAA conference school (not JMU), and go to many of their games. They are good enough to go to regionals every other year, at least, and usually have an RPI between 20 and 50, so we get to see some good ball being played. After I took her to few a games there, at 7 years old, she announced she wanted to play for that college.

I think now it is too familiar to her, and she wants something she thinks is better.

Her twin sister recently started pitching, and now she says she wants to pitch for that school. The idea of driving 10 minutes to see one of my girls play ball is beyond belief.

She's a student there... in our area, teachers that coach travel or rec practice at schools all the time. Last year we got booted off the softball field by the AD, his boy plays 10u baseball. Get a hold of the high school coach. Might be able to help. I did make the comment to the boys that it was weird "boys playing on a girls field" lol

I'll add that over the winter time, the gym is used by a few rec teams now.

Practice outdoors is never a problem. It is getting use of the gym that is the problem. Other groups in town use the gym so signing up in advance is essential, and I can't sign up without the insurance.

We got away with our team insurance when we first started out. Might wanna check if that would work.

Thanks, but we are not a team. My DDs belong to a team a few towns over. I am trying to form an organization within our town of the girls who play TB for a few different team, to give them all a chance to practice.
