Unfortunately, Rec softball in my area is all but dead after 10U. Too many select teams (can’t really call them travel as they only play local tournaments on the weekends) beginning at younger and younger ages. What our Rec program has done to stay alive is cater to these teams by having an open league where you bring your own team to the league. It gets the teams a place to practice two or three times a week and a dozen live games for an inexpensive price. Usually by 10yo the better players have moved to one of these select teams anyway. Probably not the route you want to go, but it does give an option to have a local league of sorts. I wish you luck!

Since you mentioned that your town is the only one not to have a LL softball program I wonder if a lot of the eligible girls from your town already play for one of the other LL’s? If so it might be tough for you to get those girls back as they would be grandfathered in to play with the other LL (IIRC). They might want to stay with their current teammates.

I truly wish that was the case. But it's unfortunately not.
