Well why not just show up for tryouts...I am 100% sure tryouts are open to ALL eligible members of the student body if you don't let a kid tryout out you can get in a whole lot of trouble.

Just take reps like everyone else if coach asks her to pitch she can simply say I'm not a pitcher, maybe an actual doctors opinion that pitching this season would jeopardize the recover she has made would be preferred but it's not absolutely required. She can scoop up balls in the infield and run them down in the outfield and crush balls during BP all the girls from the team will be happy she is back and then come "cut" day when she is not on the roster they can all look and the coach like he is stupid for cutting one of the top players. Now could the coach take her on the team and then just sit her on the bench all year...maybe but when he is down one run with runner in scoring position and the 7,8 and 9 hitters (avg .125 w/no power) are due up what is he going to do...when push comes to shove coaches want to win. Then maybe if after 3 weeks into the season if she NEVER gets into a single game she can simply say...since I'm not playing you obviously won't mind if I quit. The deal is the girl and parents would have to go into the whole situation knowing all the possible outcomes.

Just an aside is her scholarship in basketball or softball?

Basically if I were her parents I would simply CALL THEIR BLUFF.

Softball scholly. Parents called their bluff and took her out of the softball class. She's done with HS. I heard the coach said I can put you anywhere that we feel you will help the team since you are in OUR program. That was the line they drew. Parents walked the other way. I'm gonna talk to the AD tonight to see what he says...if anything.

Last year during a playoff bball game the coach knew the player was hurt, and she still put her in the lineup. First 30 seconds in the game, she goes down injured. Takes a break, then trots her back out 10 minutes later and hurts herself AGAIN. It gets better. She puts her out their for the 3rd time, and she goes down again writhing in pain. Misses HS softball season, Summer TB and Fall TB seasons. Lucky for her she verballed in the fall of her Jr. year.

DD is in a similar situation. She is a P, SS and OF. Almost a year ago she devloped a physical problem that was supposed to go away in Two weeks and is still keeping her from playing. Last year HS coach started her as a DH and tried to ease her into the game in OF. Which didn't work. the pain is exacerbated by physical activity, including breathing. As she puts it, the OF is the hardest position to play for her because you are running on every play and if your throwing, you're throwing with all you got. By playing her in the OF until she dropped, he effectively minimized any chance of improvement she had.
She has decided not to play her senior year and the coach keeps calling her cell phone but she won't take the calls after he began calling her "selfish" and "weak" and telling her her problems are all in her head. DD spoke with the AD who I am told, will be getting in touch with me.

It wasn't long ago that softball was fun and we were all excited about the prospect of college ball. Things did a 180 in this past year. Enjoy it while you can, because you never know how long it will last...

That sounds like a HS coach who should be fired.

I mean it's one thing to call out multi-millionaires being "weak" not playing through injuries in MLB, NFL, NBA, etc.; but calling out a HS girl for not playing through an injury and saying it's in her head? That sound like a fireable offense.
