since we're already in the weeds on this one - you stated "the improper batters time at bat is negated". How is this scored? As an AB? PA? Neither? Could be a good trivia question - (assuming Baseball rules are the same) - "Team B pitcher throws a perfect game against Team A in a full 9 inning game, but one player from Team A only goes 0-2. Why?"

Negligent, but not cheating, and I don't mean to sound judgmental with that word. yes, your coach should have said something, but considering what is normal in your league, I can see why your coach didn't. Learning process for all of us.

Getting back to the OP, in order for it to be cheating I would think you would have to gain some sort of advantage by doing it. What possible advantage would you get by putting a player on your lineup card that you knew wasn't going to show up, then having someone bat in her place?

Just an honest mistake trying to make sure as many girls get an opportunity to play as you can. At least in my opinion.

You weren't cheating, you made a mistake. The mistake was taken to the umpire, the umpire levied out the punishment, and you adhered to said punishment. Which in this case, was a warning. The only legitimate complaint the other team could have would be against the umpire's handling of the event. So, unless you have some sway over the umpire, or he's your brother-in-law or something, then you didn't cheat. You just made a mistake.

Ya know, when we played rec ball this happened a lot. You'd tack on a girl at the end in cases she bothered to show up. Then if she didn't you just crossed her off and went about the game. But there were coaches who were the kind to make a stink like that.

DD's rec league addresses this issue by saying that you leave the absent player off the lineup card, but whenever she shows up you can add her to the bottom of the lineup.

This means that the coaches who like to make a stink have to find something else to complain about. :) (And believe me, they do.)

Yea - they did give the warning which is fine and honestly we would have taken the out if the umps wanted to give it to us.
I just really took offense to being called cheaters because of it.. We beat them by more than 1 run so it's not like her getting on base won the entire thing for us..

Let it go. Who cares what someone says after they lost a game. Its over.

Nixxy, when you coach, just do the best you can and learn the rules. All you have is your integrity so if you make an honest mistake don't worry about it.

An example that has always stuck with me was when I was 11 in little league we had a coach who would do anything to win. We had a new coach who was in over his head with the sharks coaching our league. He had a pitcher who had pitches 2 2/3 inning the previous game. but it was 1 out in the 2nd, the 3rd, 4th and 1 out in the 5th. He didn't realize that this counted as 4 innings so he wasn't allowed to pitch for 4 days but coach didn't know that. He wasn't even that good and we had better pitchers, but he started him. The coach on the other team who wound up 21-0 for the season waited for him to throw 1 pitch and we had to forfeit the game. I lost all respect for coaches at that point.
