My DD mentioned that her bat was hurting her hand no matter where on the bat she hit the ball. Someone thought the bat might be dead, and started tapping the knob of the bat on the cement, and said if the bat is dead you would feel the bat vibrating. Is that the best way to tell if the bat is dead?

this is what i did.

I hit off a t with the bat myself. I made sure to hit different parts of the barrel. Then i grabbed a teammates bat and did the same. I could feel the difference in how the bat reacted and felt in my hands

The one bat I've had go bad took quite a turn for the worse pop wise, but the real give away was the sound on hits. The first time I was thinking it was a mishit. The next hit sounding off was the beginning of what prompted a warranty return.

Thanks, unfortunately because of a disability I cannot swing a bat. I can tap it on the ground, so that is why I asked.

I will try to listen for that. Thanks

In my experience the bats that I've had go dead that were composite, the entire bat hits flat and makes a vibration sound. With an alloy it seemed to be more spotty on "dead" spots.

I would definitely swing it yourself to compare to another bat. My DD will swear hers is dead after she goes 0-4 and hits everything off the handle.

Wish I could. I mentioned yesterday, because of a disability, I can't swing a bat.
