Quick question, how often do you think a 14u B or A team should practice? In season? Off season? I am referring to full team practices not individaul workouts.

Depends.

If the majority of players are local (which I would expect for 14-B teams and most 14-A teams), I always believed 2x a week is standard, with the occasional weekend practice on non-tournament weekends.

Once the players come from 'all over the place', team practices are rare.

I think twice per week is good, provided that each player is also taking hitting lessons and specialized lessons for pitchers and catchers. We went to one long practice per week this year due to so many girls being 1 1/2- 2 hours from our practice field. It has worked out fantastic so far, but I don't think this is an ideal situation for most teams. Our core has been playing together for four years already, with a few new players each year. Newer teams will need more practice to mesh and learn new plays.

DD's old team always practiced 2x/week with the occasional 3rd practice for hitting only. Although the girls who came from 1.5 miles away rarely attended. This was 10U/12U. It caused problems because the 2 girls who rarely attended practices didn't know the signs/plays, etc. Caused a lot of drama.

DD now plays on a team that is about 1 hr away from us. They currently have one practice during the week and one long one on Sunday (unless they are playing on the Sunday). It has been working well for everyone. Most of the team is in a 15-20 min radius of the practice field - but DD and two other players come from 40-60 miles away (all different directions so no carpooling - bummer!). The Sunday practices are nice because we avoid the traffic and we don't have to deal with losing daylight during the winter.

ETA: DD's current team is 14A/B

The normal (non-tournament) schedule for my DD's 14-A team is 3-1/2 hour team practices on Saturdays, and friendlies on Sundays. Other days are open for whatever hitting, pitching, etc. lessons or work the player needs to do to keep improving. My DD attends a strength and conditioning session on Monday, hits on Tuesday, and catches for one of her pitchers on Wednesday. Every other Thursday, DD attends a 2-hour fielding clinic that is included with our team program. Friday is family night (usually).

This is actually less demanding of our time than the team she was on for 10U-12U, which included two team sessions during the week (both an hour drive from where I pick up my DD in the afternoon). We weren't getting home until after 9pm on those nights. Our current schedule doesn't have any late nights, and only one long drive during the week.

I think a lot depends on the schedule and time of year. DD's team will be practicing once a week on Sunday's from November through February, alternating weeks between batting cages and indoor fields. Holiday weeks are usually off. Around March high school ball starts taking most of the girls, but DD is an 8th grader so hopefully we can fill in with another team. During the season we'll play most weekends, so practices are generally once a week then also. Personally I think it should be either twice a week or a extra long practice on a weekend in the "off season", but most of the other girls play basketball or volleyball so attendance would be pretty spotty.

Our 14A team has one long practice on Sundays (2-6). Sometimes, there's an extra clinic or indoor batting if weather is bad. DD does her hitting/catching lesson once per week and also goes to a personal trainer twice per week. Our fall schedule is quite light (lighter than I'd hoped for). Our first showcase tournament is next weekend.
