my budget is $135 per game, 18 varsity 8 JV games and 1 tourney. breaks down to $95 umpires, plus $40 electric. Now we raised $ for concessions and balls. and have to pay a $4 pr mile for away games, the farthest game is 65 miles, 130 x 4 = $520 plus $20 hr for driver. We have 8 away games, but get to ride with the baseball team. If we have 30 paid patrons at $5, we break even pretty much. $40 per kid doesn't go far. 25 kids just $1k, the schools charging $1K per girl, man, I'm at the wrong school! I could afford a pay raise at that school!

I am asking as a parent. It cost my daughter 1000$ to play high school ball. This number can vary due to various factors in different high schools.
I want to know the total cost/total games, it should give cost per game. Total cost are things that are day to day operational expenses like umpires, lights, field maintainance, coaches salary etc. I would not include for ex. building a batting cage. We were given a budget of 55,000$ for this year. This is for regular operating expense.

I have never hard of any HS program that charges $1000 for any sport. If they charged that for softball, they have to do so for every other sport. That would be a portion of Title IX. So, every basketball, football, baseball, golfer... player pays the same.

I don't understand your question. Are you asking as a coach? I don't really have a budget. I have funds where we raise money and keep them in the softball account. We just put a huge amount of money in there from concessions stands that the HC and players worked. However, we have to do major work on our diamonds and so, that fund will be depleted quickly. As long as we are always working to try to put monies into the softball fund, our AD will work with us. Also, we have one booster club for all of the sports in our HS. The booster club tries to help all sports out based upon needs. As another example, I am the HC in Girl's Golf. I put $90 in a few weeks ago and next week I will put $250 in. We are buying new golf bags for my 10 member team. If you do the math, I'm a little short for what it would cost to buy 10 new golf bags. LOL

Oh, and no, the coaches aren't told what it cost to do a game.

Edited to add:

If you are asking as a parent and want to know the cost/game per your child getting on the field, then you are forgetting all of the practices. My teams practice 6 days a week. We practice a minimum of 2 1/2 hours but mostly closer to 3 hours. We have great facilities including two turfed cages, a bunting station, ... for hitting, screens for all kinds of things, ... Players and parents get their money's worth and more in my opinion.

just a question, what is involved in your bunting station? I need one of these? any pics you might could share?

No, 30 kids app.
55K just sounds way, way too high. 30K from your roster only would carry us for two years. This includes a week at the beach tourney, four days at state tourney and two more weekend tourneys. All of which girls rooms are paid for. Is your coaches salary included in that figure? Ours makes around $4,000 on top of teacher salary.

As I mentioned, boys' hockey is about $1000 per year per kid. Actually, I looked it up. It's only $915

Athletic Participation Fee (Grade 9-12) $115.00 per sport
Maximum Participation Fee (Grade 9-12) $500.00 per family
Athletic Participation Surcharge (Grade 9-12)
(Surcharges are in addition to the $500.00 Family Maximum)
Hockey - $800.00
Gymnastics - $100.00
Wrestling - $100.00
Boy's Golf - $118.00
Girl's Golf - $118.00

Wouldn't the difference be in hockey that the school does not own the facility and so has to rent for games and practice?

I coach golf and we don't pay extra for our course. Most courses participate in Junior Golf Programs and so, this is not only a write off for them, they are generating potential members. My players play for free but are required to do a few duties over the summer. For example, they help gather the range balls on the sides of the driving range that have been "lost" in the trees.

Per bunting station, we use a lite flite baseball machine with lite flite baseballs. We set up a plate and then cones to denote where the foul lines are and hula hoops that denote areas where we want the ball bunted. Again, we "bunt" with a bare hand catching the ball, use one hand on the barrel of the bat and then they can use two hands. I don't have pictures but it is easy to set up.

I guess we have it easy at our high school. We pay a $35 dollar per sport fee. Everything else is paid for by the school. Uniforms are provided by the school and returned after each season. We don't play any out of town tournaments or anything, so obviously no hotel stays involved. We do have a parent run concessions stand at all home softball games, and a "booster club" that does the same at all the other sporting events. Money raised by the booster club is donated back to school for field improvements, scoreboards, equipment, and things needed that the school can not afford to do.
