Wait, where is the person that said NPF players only got paid poorly because od sexism. Now she can buy the team and show us how wrong everyone was.

Just to play devil's advocate, I was under the impression that it is sexism that women sports teams do not do as well as men's teams? Thinking about soccer, the women's professional soccer league has a much harder time simply surviving compared to the men's leagues. Yet US women's soccer players are far more dominant than the men, and I would think it is fair to say, play a better game. I thought women's teams struggle because much fewer men would go to see a professional women's team compared to those who go to see a men's team.

Why does such a small percentage of men go to watch women's professional team? Is it because they don't want to watch women play, they only want to watch men, even when the women's league is a superior product. That sounds like sexism to me.

If women's leagues can't earn as much revenue as men's leagues because of sexism, then the player are paid poorly because of sexism.

I think a good comparison for basketball is DIII mens sports vs D1 mens sports. People who really know and love the game will appreciate a well-played DIII basketball game even though there aren't as many dunks, the speed of the game is slower etc. Same can be said for football. However for the casual fan they want to see the game played at its highest level which is why DI sports generate much more interest than DIII or DII sports. For women's basketball that is the main problem imo. I love basketball and love watch ball movement, etc. However most casual fans want to see players flying all over the court, etc and you just don't get that to the same degree with women.

Softball is a different animal however because the rules/dimensions have been set up to try and speed the game up so that it is at the same level as men's baseball. With softball I think the main issue is that most viewers of sports are men and most men didn't play softball growing up. Professional softball needs to promote youth softball and then make sure that those young girls grow up to be consumers of their product.

One thing that has always struck odd me is the use of baseball fields for NPF games. The short bases, and short fences (in comparison with the dimensions the field was built for) make the game look smaller...lesser. Honestly, it's a turn-off. I don't get that sensation at all watching televised softball played on a proper softball field. IMO, it's hard to convince the casual viewer that this is the highest level of the game when the facilities are sub-par compared with college ball.

I agree. Why are they not playing games in college stadiums when they don't have their own stadiums? I am sure they need to rent them but wouldn't they be paying rent on baseball stadiums too?

So, are you saying that women should be paid on par with men in the same "pro" sport, regardless of generated revenue?

I am trying to understand where you think I am saying that women should automatically be paid the same.

What I am saying is women's league do not generate the kind of revenue that men's leagues do, and it seems to me to be a matter of sexism. It seems a large proportion of men are not interested in watching women's sports, regardless of the quality of the product. That seems sexist to me.

I am in no way advocating legislating or enforcing some equal pay provision, let the market decide the pay of the players. I am saying people should admit that there is sexism in where the sports fans dollars are spent.

Seeing women are about 52-53% of the population too they must be sexists as well. And if men are sexists why does the SEC and Women's College World Series sellout??

I was under the impression that by far more men are sports spectators than women. I don't expect an equal percentage of women to attend sporting events as men do. Would you agree that the majority of men would not attend a woman's sporting event, even if the quality of play of the women's teams were equal to or better the men's teams?
