I have a lot of options at the size through Vinci if you want some more information - my DD currently uses a 12" for MI, and I think you are fine anywhere between 11.75-12.25. Any of the gloves that Annasdad posted would work also, what is your budget looking like?

As a catchers mom, DD's biggest gripe was the SS not getting to the bag in time for her throws. If the weathers nice see if your budding SS can get with either her catcher(s) or a catcher to practice real time throw downs. Maybe even find out if a pitcher/catcher combo is practicing outside and ask if she can come at the end of practice. Again gives her real( realer) time practice getting to the base in time for the throw downs.

LOL. I've been doing this but she asked for other drills. Gets boring doing same drill but she is making improvements.

this is why i yell alot

just kidding

with specialty situations like this, or pitcher/catcher on a passed ball, etc i break it down

we'll drill the finish - i'll put them in the final position, and feed them balls from close distance - get them to focus on ball reception first

then i'll start them 3-5 steps away and have them move into position......might take a few for you to get your timing down feeding them the ball, but then you can vary it to simulate getting there late, etc - this adds the finding the bag and setting up in the right spot to it

move farther away and add steps, progressing into full throwdowns - can even set a pitching machine to do the throwdowns, just to get a bunch of repetition in.....

not super exciting, but it works the steps to a very specific skill.......maybe i'm not creative enough, but sometimes these specific skills are hard to make exciting to practice - you can make it more exciting if you have more than one SS to work at once, finding ways to make it into a competition - nothing makes a drill more exciting & gets the girls into it like a competition

Funny you mention this because we have been doing the same thing this past week. Seems to be working well, was more consistent covering the bag during our friendlies last weekend.

Little video that shows the importance of letting the ball travel. As far as the SS covering 2B on a steal, looks at Kinsler's position at the 1:57 to 2:00 mark. That's what we teach our SS's to do, some coaches like the SS to straddle the bag which is okay too, we just like our girls in front of the bag.

I have always been a big proponent of straddling the bag. It really takes away the hook slide.

I prefer to have the SS catch and tag downward rather than catch and sweep backwards.
