So Cal
Batter and coach were ejected
Coach claimed its part of game

There is a line between what is "part of the game" and what is not. Bumps and collisions happen. Malicious intent is not acceptable. If the player was ejected because of this collision, she crossed the line (in the opinion of the ump).

DD got knocked to the ground at 1B by a runner once, totally on purpose with excessive force to get the obstruction call. The girl lowered her shoulder and plowed into her. She ended up on 3B and the umpires didn't do squat. It was pretty crazy. There's a GIF of it floating around here somewhere. I suppose it's hard to teach kids they're rarely going to get an obstruction call without contact, only don't try to send them to the hospital? I dunno, doesn't seem that complicated.

IIRC, contact isn't required for an obstruction call to be made. Why don't we just stop teaching players to try and draw an obstruction call in the first place? (Or does this belong in the "how to get an ump to call an IP" thread?). :)

Not required but at least at the younger ages (DD is first year 12U) I think I've seen it called one time without contact. Sometimes it doesn't even get called when there IS contact. It's really frustrating when the fielder is completely in the way and it costs your runner a base and nobody does a thing about it.

Seems pretty straight forward in these situations it is the 1B responsibility to stay inside the field of play, as long as she is completely inside the bag which she was I don't see any reason for the runner to touch her, there is no possibility she trying to turn to 2B it does not look like she lowered her shoulder but the ump is right there on top of the play if he felt it was intentional I have no problem with the ejection.
