We had 8 players this weekend. 1 is recovering from a broken wrist and should not be playing, another came to game even though she had bronchitis to get us to 8. She should not have been playing either.

Before game coach's talked, player with bronchitis didn't want to run so if she got on base we were going to put in a pinch runner, no problem until the rules person on other Team, actually in charge of leaque, noticed.

Raised a stink that that was illegal.

Look we can all go home or allow us a pinch runner, not that complicated. Other Team's HC got it.

How often do people do things like this because they want to feel powerful? I see too much of it.

Putting emphasis on strictly following the rules before the wellbeing of a kid, terrible.

It's personality usually. Some people see the world as very black and white. They think "fairness" means treating everyone exactly the same. These people can be pretty tough to deal with.

Yep. DD played with strep and a bit of a fever so we wouldn't have to forfeit a game one hot summer day. Fortunately, she felt so bad she couldn't make good contact with the ball and didn't have to run bases.

12U. Played in a tourney with 8 girls. Started with 10 and two got hurt over the weekend. Semi-final game... one of the hurt girls stood in the outfield just so we could start with 9 and play. When she came out of the game, we had to take an out every time she was due to bat. Last inning, down by one, two outs, with runners on. Opposing HC tells pitcher to walk our batter to get to the automatic out. She gets a couple balls, then our batter swats at the outside pitch and makes contact. The infield, in shock, panics and over throws 1B, allowing us to score 2 and win it. The look on that coaches face was priceless. The girls went on to win the championship as well.

REC BALL???? If it's a tournament, rules are there for a reason. Why couldn't you just take an out?

I'm in the rules are rules camp. Someone mentioned putting the rules in front of the well being of the kid... well, there are rules that protect the well being of the players and the other team is not the one who isn't looking out for the well being of the kid. The coach/parent that let her play did.

Tell you what. My pitcher can't throw as many strikes as yours, so can she have 6 balls before a walk? We're talking about the mental well being of a kid here.... :D
