Is there a difference in "cut" b/w "youth" baseball pants and female-specific softball pants?

My daughter was complaining about the amount of material in the inseam, (or I guess another way to put it is the amount of space b/w the inseam and her!), but these same pants also didn't help "hide the crack" when she was catching this summer.

Saw softball pants on baseballsavings.com website, but just from the picture, it looked like they were cut much lower - line they would ride lower on the hips. I get the fashion thing, but I would think for athletic wear, they'd put more emphasis on the functionality aspect? Am I just being "ignorant dad", or would the lower riding pants just make it even worse for ANY girl who was catching?

I was hoping to do a bulk order of the regular baseball pants for my rec team, but if the fit is going to be that different, maybe it's just a matter of pick-your-poison?

I've found that youth pants are by in large made for boys with extra room in the crotch for a cup. They tend to fit horribly. My girls like the Mizuno fast pitch line they are not low rise and fit nice and slim with wide elastic at the waist and plenty of length.

My DD is a catcher and always struggled with the "crack" issue, a problem exasperated by the fact that she is very low waisted with no butt. She found that Boombah pants worked the best. For extra protection, she has always worn a tank top that she tucks into her sliding shorts - that really helps.

My DD loves Mizuno but wore some from 3n2 called Nufit which she also loved. They advertise them as low rise in the front and higher in the back for more coverage. If our team didn't wear all Mizuno she would wear the 3n2 all the time.

Not an expert on the subject, but my DD always preferred Mizuno softball pants over everything else...

Mizuno or Easton pants worked well for us. Regarding the "crack" issue (and not that I've ever really noticed or cared to look), between sliding shorts and a tucked in jersey, doesn't everything stay all covered up anyway??

Under Armour makes a very solid women's fastpitch pant. Durable, and not expensive.

Thanks for all the replies. Since we're still in the 8U category, I've yet to see a girl even try to slide in a game yet, so I doubt anyone's wearing the sliding shorts yet. But I could see the tucking the under-shirt into the sliding shorts as an eventual solution in another year or so. In the meantime, looks like Mizuno is a favorite - I may just buy a bunch from the next clearance sale I find. Will have to look into Boombah as well, but I don't expect the price point to be as favorable as a Mizuno, Easton, or UA.

Thanks again for the help!
