I've run across a few softball equipment companies that have Affiliate Programs where I "advertise" for them on my website and they return a portion of sales that get from my referral. Has anyone used these programs to a great success and what are the negative factors in doing so?

Depends on your site and the amount of traffic you get. If you have a highly trafficked site and want to monetize it, affiliate is one way.

The pro is you control what you advertise. The con is you send people away from your content, and you only get paid if they convert, and whatever offer you're advertising is pretty much out there on other affiliate sites too.

Another way to monetize your site are the many ad servers out there. Google Ads, outbrain, etc. The pro is you control how many ads you place on your site and you get paid for impressions and clicks. The con is you don't necessarily control the ads that get placed on your site.

Monetization has pretty much ruined most good sites. The news sites use outbrain which is a lot of garbage and click bait disguised as articles and content.

Affiliate at least allows you to tailor your ads to your sites' content.

Commission Junction and Shareasale are the two big affiliate networks with the best programs. Good luck!!
