55dad's, home to 1st thread, prompted me to post this thread

I thought of this many times when DD1 was contacting Colleges in regards to recruitment, but we just ran out of time...and yes maybe I'm wearing the Captain Obvious costume here...are any of you guys doing this? I'm sure you guys are, but does your video include ALL of the mentioned skills here on video on a radar gun, or from a measurable view point?

Is anyone sending out a Recruiting Video to College Coaches that has measured/timed skills in the videos clips?
What I mean by that is this, are any of you showing a video clip of your DD running the 20 yard dash (home to first), in a manner that easily allows the coach viewing it to time it while viewing it.
How about overhand throwing speed, pitching speed, Zepp bat speed, ball exit speed (all in mph)? On a radar gun or Zepp screen
Do any of your DDs Recruiting Videos have a quantitative view of of these skills, where the college coach can see you holding a Pocket Radar when they are pitching showing the ball speed and movement from the catcher's view? Or a radar gun on the overhand throwing speed? Of having a pitching machine cranked up to 60-65 mph and having them hit.

I always wanted to do this, showing DD1 hitting on a men's softball field showing the distance the ball went in the air. Or DD1 maxing out on bench, or another lift (her strong suits)
But we also would have included the 20 yard dash times, over hand throw and what not which would have been detrimental in recruitment (3.0 and 56mph respectively)
At least it would have been something the College Coaches could have seen, with all of the basic skills involved in fast pitch.

I haven't seen many Recruiting videos that include all of these skills measured on a radar where the College Coach can view it on a HD TV or monitor.
Am I just not looking in the right place?
For DD2 and DD3, this is still an option since they are younger.
But for us to jump on a plane and fly around the country to play in front of coaches/schools, is not an option.
So maybe a detailed video showing all skills, hitting, running, lifting, and throwing with a radar gun in view would be helpful?

Your thoughts?

I don't think all that is necessary. I would only include a home to first clip if that was one of your DD's strengths. Coaches are looking for proper mechanics when they view your DD's swing, fielding and throwing. Keep the video short, 3 minutes or so, and simple. Good coaches can figure out if your DD is worth looking into from a basic video.

I have to agree with MJ. I have always been told to keep it short and sweet. I have been told by coaches that they do not have time or even want to watch a 10 min long video. The "KISS" method is always the way to go.

Understand that quantitative aspects are easily verifiable. As such, if home-first or OH speed etc are strengths, it's ok to state them imo , just like SATs or GPA. Exaggerate at all, you'll be exposed and dropped from consideration very quickly.

I hear ya!
I just thought that short video clips with mph reading on radar guns could verify and maybe re-enforce a coach's thoughts on a recruit...whether it be Yay or Nay, in regards to signing a recruit they didn't have much, if any data on.

When you think short. Think even shorter. If your video is longer than 2:30 mins. it maybe to long. Here are two videos I did. One is at or close to the 2:30 mark. The other is closer to the three min mark. The one at the 2:30 mark got way more views. Also if you do the video your self keep the raw footage. IF you hire someone request it. Keep the video quick and clean. Oh and you may want to split the videos up. IF you make a 5 min video and it includes everything you mentioned, most people and coaches will pass it up. However if you break it apart, and keep it under a min and thirty seconds, you may get better feedback from coaches.

Great videos man!

I just thought that (4) 20 yard dashes
4 over hand throws on radar, Or 4 pitches on radar
10 Zepp bat speeds
10 ball exit speeds on radar, with cameras set up at home plate (like you did) and across the field about 3/4 down the line.
4 throws home from the outfield
And maybe 4 vertical jumps on video

All edited in to save time of course...

That way their skills are quantified, almost like at a football Combine.

For us, that'd might at least get some more interest from a coach. Versus us getting on a plane and hoping that the coach she had been emailing comes to a game.

A good coach can watch a pitch or two and instantly tell you within a MPH or two how fast it was. They do not need you showing them a radar gun reading. They are also evaluating a pitchers mechanics and the pitches movement, especially late movement. Same holds true for watching girls run bases. It does not take a rocket scientist to say "that girl is fast"...but all the speed in the world cannot help a player who struggles with fundamentals at the plate and cannot get a bunt down, slap or swing away.

Short and sweet is a good rule to follow. Avoid the temptation use a cheesy soundtrack. You have 60 seconds to catch a coaches attention and keep them watching, do not put your best skills at the end of the video, put them FIRST!

When watching deer run have you ever seen a big buck running side by side next to a doe?
The big buck literally looks like he's standing still, even though he's going the same speed as the other deer in the group...
ya...DD1 looks like the big buck when she runs...3.0 speed and looks slow
Or a goose flying 35 mph compared to a mallard flying 35 mph, the goose looks slow compared to the duck
EDIT: objects of different sizes moving the same speed, don't look like they are moving the same speed (at least to me)
So I gotta disagree with ya there

Is that how football coaches gauge prospects? By just watching them run, jump and pass?
No stop watches, no vertical jumping boards, no bench press footage with 225 lbs going up 25 times?
It works for boys/men, so I figured it would work for girls/women. Maybe not?
And if I'm Paige Lowary, I want a radar gun showing 75 mph in my video...daaayuuum...
