Is this the same as pitching speed? Does everyone exaggerate their true speed? I have worked tryouts (14U to 18U) at a very solid club team for the last fours years. Most girls are 3.1 to 3.4 and there is a small group who get below 3.1 seconds. From there, girls who get into the 2.9s are fast but rare. Girls somewhere from 2.8 to 2.89 are truly fast, and girls in the 2.7s flat out fly. I have never seen a legit 2.6 or less. We time with stopwatches but our times are fairly consistent with laser timing. Our girls run generally the same times when they are timed elsewhere.

I just don't think as many girls actually run in the 2.7s as there are girls who say they do. Kind of like the 4.4 in football.

How do they time down in Gopherville? :D

Heck, I suppose a guy could post a video clip at regular speed and we could all time it from our computers.

I time the 3 DDs, four times in a row, once a week, when we practice in the winter.

DD1 is around 3.0 now, from my stopwatch, her HS coach's watch, and she was as 3.0-3.1 at the Twin Cities Showcases, so I figure I'm close...
DD2 is quicker...:D
DD3 started out last winter in the 3.6's (every seen a drunk giraffe run?...arms and legs flailing all over, like Sponge Bob getting chased by an Alaskan Bull Worm)
After I became a YouTube Sprint coaching expert, along with a whole bunch of running and lifting with me, she got down into the 3.1's..I'm very proud of her!
"Dad, I'm gettin' pretty fast," she says :D

Try this...have your girls start out of running block, or with one foot against a wall...the time will shock you, compared to them starting on a flat gym floor, grass or on an infield.
Then you might see a 2.6

I think people time home to 1st different ways which might be why there is a discrepancy.

DD is 2 or 12 seconds to 1st, never can remember which one it is.

At tryouts we time them with a stopwatch running from home to first just outside the first baseline on the infield dirt in their cleats. We start the watch when they move and stop it when they pass first. In the winter we time them in a dome on turf and they run 20 yards (based on the football lines) timed by an electronic digital timing system.

Edit - I said fairly consistent times between hand and electronic times in the original post but should add that the girls are generally a bit slower with the sparq times.

I do not time very often, probly should do it more. Add it it to my list.

I have always done soft toss or pitched to them and start timer when ball hits the bat. They still cheat because they know they are getting timed, probably should do it in game when they do not know it.

DD has a foot issue, she can be pretty fast or pretty slow. Depends on a bunch of things but she slows down as the games go on.

Mine has always been the fastest on her team and I timed her regularly at 3.3 or 3.4. We went to a college camp and they started timing when the first foot hit the ground going toward first. They had her at 2.8 and 2.9.
