DD2 plays on a Williamsport level team. For the month of July her coach scheduled 22 days of tournaments, league games, scrimmages, and practices. Is something like this common, or did he over do it?

Depends on the other 11 months.

My DD 1 and DD 3 sometimes played on LL all-star teams. Those teams played in 2 tournaments in July. The total time involved was almost every day for 3 weeks, plus tryouts. Not to mention a few LL games on the side. But those teams only existed a few weeks out of the year.

The team plays and practices 10 months out of the year. This is a new head coach, in many ways a really great guy, but I think he is overscheduling. DD1 plays on a serious travel team. They had only 13 days of tournaments, scrimmages, and practices in July. My "overworked" daughters team had 14 days of games, scrimmages, and practices in June, and 12 in May. Every other day in June was borderline, but not completely, unreasonable. Now that the summer league is over he is going away for a week, sounds like he is planning on starting practices up again immediately after. He said he is trying to find a Labor Day weekend tournament, and who knows after that.

Wow, yeahMine is first year 12u this fall. We're doing 2 tournaments per month, one long weekend practice (plus one weeknight practice) and one weekend off per month so families can go camping or whatever.

We played a lot last year and I think by the end everyone was fairly well burned out.

Sounds too much for DD but some kids eat that up, can we play or practice all 30 days?

(I refuse to give reason DD not going to practice or game, just let coach know as soon as possible she will not be there)

Seems like quite a bit. Playing every weekend with two practices each week would only be 16 -18 days.

Arms need rest...kids are probably throwing too much if the team is actually executing that schedule.

However, I've come to the conclusion that in most places, you need to schedule a tournament every weekend. Weather and other things inevitably get in the way of being too choosy about WHICH days you want to try to play or practice. If you try to game it too much, you end up not getting enough work. If the team has played several weekends in a row and people are getting tired, then cancel that next event.
