The tryout was on Sunday. Right when he was about to evaluate batting, it started to pour. Each girl got about three tries at batting and that's it. He let everyone but pitchers and catchers go. We waited it out for about 20 minutes, and the rain stopped, but the field was toast. There was a large grassy area adjacent to the field, and he watched the pitchers pitch a while and then let the catchers attempt throwdowns.

When we hadn't heard anything by today (Wednesday), I assumed team was set and we weren't getting an offer. But I got this email this afternoon:

"thx for bringing her out unfortunately the rain came and kinda ruined our plans there at the end from a scrimmage standpoint but that's the way it goes I guess ....The next step for us will be to go to organizational tryouts this Sunday and from there we will make offers for the team ."

The email was one where it was blind copied, so you know it was sent to multiple people. It obviously also says "her" and not DD's specific name.

My question: do you think he sent this to everyone or only those still under active consideration and he just wants to see more?

Trying to plan out our options for tryouts this weekend. There are so many that if she is not under real/serious consideration, I'd rather take her to a coach who hasn't seen her yet.

Thanks!

She is on the bubble. They want another look at multiple players. If this is your DD's #1 choice then you have a decision to make. If not then it would be wise to look at other options.

This one is on Sunday. She's definitely going to two others the day before. There are about 4 tryouts on Sunday she could do. I think this one is the best fit of those, so I'm tempted to take her, but I don't want to waste valuable time at a cattle call if we think everyone got the same email.

If it were me, I'd only send that email if I wanted a second look to finalize my team. In other words, most spots are filled but I want to see the a couple of players that may or may not fit the bill. As Sparky Guy said, your DD's on the bubble. Then again, she may not be if she outhits the others or is a better fielder

Generally you wouldn't send that email unless you had interest. Otherwise you would send the "thanks for coming but we don't have a spot for her this year" email.

How many kids does this coach have serious interest in if he is sending a form email? At least 5 to 10 is my guess, which means that the interest isn't all that serious IMO. I'd be looking elsewhere on Sunday.

With a bcc you don't know how many girls were emailed. Coaches do that sometimes, so that everyone doesn't know what girls are being considered, etc.

To the OP: you already said this is probably the best fit of the teams your DD could try out for on Sunday, and she is already going to some Saturday tryouts.

As annoying as this is, the coach doesn't control the weather. All you know is your DD is being considered for a team for which she would like to play.

If I were in your situation, I would probably grumble a lot, and complain a lot, and vent about it to DFP, and then take my DD back on Sunday. And I am serious. Venting about the situation on DFP is probably a good thing. Gets the bad feelings out, so you can move on.

Go to the tryout / team that will help develop your the most. Everything else is just a waste of time and money.
