We just returned from ASA 14U Nationals in Chattanooga last week. From playing ASA events the past few seasons I have come to realize what an impact having competing national events has done for the game. I feel like ASA has stepped up their game to draw as much interest as possible. I was very impressed by the tournament they ran last week. The umpires were some of the best I have watched call games since DD started playing. We had three umpire crews for every bracket game. ASA had officials all over the park keeping things going and watching over the games. I came away with a very favorable view of the organization and the improvements they have made.

I feel in the end ASA vs. PGF has been good for the game and for the girls. Hopefully they keep pushing each other to continually improve the experiences for our girls.

In GA PGF doesn't have much of a presence and ASA has kind of faded in the younger age groups at least. We did play a couple of ASA local tournaments last year and I loved them. I'm hoping with how many 12U teams there are in GA that more of them will make this year than did in 10U. They're just very well run in comparison to pretty much every other sanction we've played in. I'm sure a lot of it depends on the director.

I am glad to hear that ASA is making a concerted effort to improve the experience for the teams participating in their events. Now if we can just get them to stop using the same 3 or 4 locations every year...Chattanooga has nice softball facilities and is a fun city to visit, but Normal, IL and Salem, VA really leave something to be desired.

Always good to hear positive feedback about a tournament. We had friends who also played there and had a similar experience.
Our team played in the Triple Crown WS in Myrtle Beach. We had some rain but the field crews worked hard to get the games moving and the umps were great. Very impressed with the whole experience.

In what manner?

ASA used to be the top org in Florida. Unfortunately now it is just another money grab. Stay to play and 2 or 3 game guarantee held in locations that are convenient for the TD, not the teams. All to play in national tournament held in the middle of a cow pasture in some obscure destination. If PGF was interested they could easily be the top Org in Florida. But they do not even hold qualifiers here.

I was in Roanoke once, and thought it was a nice little city.
What didn't you like about it?

Softball facilities were not up to par with some other locations we have played. Roanoke is not a city I would choose to visit if I was not there for softball. Chattanooga has the aquarium, Rock city and Ruby Falls. I will say that I enjoyed Salem better than Normal, IL if that helps.

PGF will start sanctioning more regular tourneys in Alabama this year and ASA started last season. We have reached the age where that really doesn't matter since the girls are playing showcases and qualifiers only. I do wish there were more qualifiers for both in the area.

Don't know a whole lot about Salem but Normal IL. is a terrible location for ASA Nationals. Chattanooga would be a location I would like to visit, the natural scenery and topography of the area is very nice.
