Hi guys, hoping someone can clarify something for me. If a pitcher walks a batter and the batter later scores due to fielding error, is this run charged to the pitcher as an earned run? Thank you

Reconstruct the inning as if no errors occurred. If the run would not have scored without the error then the run is unearned.

Ok. So my wife checked the books. Our daughter allowed 10 walks on the weekend; 2 walks scored on error after 2 outs and 2 walks scored on error before 2 outs; she worked 19 1/3 innings; threw 202 strikes and 82 balls; walked 10 batters and struck out 26. My wife said none of the runs would have scored without the fielding errors and she did allow two earned runs over the course of the weekend. We're trying to figure out her ERA for this tournament.

Don't worry about her ERA... get her walks down.
26 K's is very impressive!

WHIP is the new ERA to me. IMO At the younger ages this is a much better metric to focus on than K's or ERA. Too many pitchers around here are so focused on Ks because that is all parents or PC talk about and they feel like they fail if they don't have double digit strike out games. DD knows WHIP and focuses on keeping it under 1. Some of her best games we look back and see a sub 1 WHIP but maybe only 2-3 strikeouts in 7 innings. That is a good team win!

What is "whip" and how do we figure it out?
