There is a local organization that flagrantly "stacks" their roster with ringers to go to nationals. I always wonder how the parents on the team whose DD's played all season felt about them warming the bench in the one tournament that matters...I guess they just want to be able to brag to their friends about how the team finished.

Happens all over the place...
DD's prior team pulls from three of their area teams to take one team to nationals. This year 5-6 girls from the core team were left out.
3 of them are now moving to different teams.

A lot of teams take extra players to Nationals, but the ones who bring in 4 or 5 "ringers" and sit their regular players are the ones that burn me up. I like the old saying "Dance with the one that brung ya"....

It's not unusual to take some extra players because for the number of games you need extra. I can tell you that the teams on the field for the Bandits 16 and 18 were the same kids that have played all season. No idea what was on the bench. I don't have a problem with the older teams having kids from all over.

I believe if the Bandits only pulled from Illinois they would be able to still compete, there are some very talented players in the Chicagoland area.

With these massive indoor facilities being built for winter time, I believe that is helping close the gap, not just with softball, but baseball as well.

I was told by a girl that pitched at Stanford, who now is an instructor, she believed that playing year round was actually a hindrance, as players develop bad mechanics they don’t have that time off to correct it, and work through it. They also don’t have the recovery time and will play through a lot of injuries.

Maybe but as with every other state there are so many teams that if you don't make yourself super selective you end up second class. They also sit right at the Indiana border so pulling from Indiana is very reasonable for them.

They could "still compete", however I seriously doubt they would win PGF or contend as consistently as they have without going outside IL.

I agree the indoor training has closed the gap and will lead to more injuries.

Northwest Indiana is a very reasonable area for the Bandits to be recruiting from. The 10u Bandit team just finished there tryouts. One tryout was in the Beverly area of Chicago (Marist High School) and the other was in Crown Point, Indiana. The northwest Indiana area is loaded with very good softball players, and a lot of them play for teams that are based in Illinois. It would be silly if the Bandits did not recruit N.W. Indiana.

The Bandits offer a level of play that very few teams in the midwest can offer.

Find it interesting that with the need for "time off" and an "off season" increases proportionately with latitude. :)

Maybe Conroy will decide it’s not worth going to California to keep playing the same Midwest and Eastern teams and he’ll start an organization with Nationals in Chicago.

There was a Firecrackers team "from California" that had 20 plus players on it. The girls didn't even know each other's names. The pitcher was announced on FloSoftball as being from Macon Georgia.
