OK first of all let me say: I understand. I really do. You are afraid all the talented players will be gone if you wait till August 1st to have your tryouts. God knows nothing is more important than travel softball and it would simply be devastating if the Evesham Grasshoppers Super Deluxe Elite got that shortstop before your Gold team could grab her. But let me say something that goes beyond softball and involves character and doing the right thing.

These girls are still playing for their current teams. Some are going to Nationals next week. They made a commitment to finish the season with the team they are rostered on and deserve not to have to deal with the added distraction of going to tryouts while dealing with practices and games with their current team all the while having to be sneaky about it.

Next year do the right thing....wait until the season is over. It's softball. Have fun and chill out.

You are wrong. What makes your opinion any more correct than mine? You have a lot of posts so you are smarter?

Its disrespectful to the coaches and administrators of the current team and is unnecessary. There is plenty of time in August to have tryouts when the girls are not obligated to the team they committed to for the season. All it is is a talent grab and it gets earlier and earlier every year. Pretty soon we will have tryouts for the following year before travel season even starts. Let the girls focus on finishing the current season and then have at it.

The fact is that tryouts are getting earlier and earlier each season and that's because not every program goes to Atlanta or New England's Finest which take place in mid - late July. In fact their season ends in early to mid July at a "local" national tournament. If you have a concern about an organization starting their tryouts in mid-late July for September tournament season, then scratch them off your list of potential orgs for your DD since you have a fundamental issue with the way they're conducting their business.

The fact is it effects everyone not just the team that is having the tryouts early. The girls are rostered until July 31st. Girls are having to sneak around and go to tryouts when then should be at their current teams practice etc. My daughter is staying with the team she's on but why was the old practice of waiting until August 1st so wrong? It's just coaches with too much testosterone trying to build up their egos by grabbing all the stud players before anyone else can. It's immoral and bad practice but that is just my opinion. It wouldn't happen at the college or pro level or even at the high school level so why is it accepted in travel ball?

OK So you are in favor of it that's fine. I don't understand why but hey we all have our opinions. I think it causes a lot of unnecessary stress for everyone involved. There are 31 days in August. It didn't use to be this way, why is it OK now?
