Just behind home plate
There's a lot of talk on DFP about the life lessons our girls take away from softball, and one of the hardest ones is this: you will encounter people in your life who are better than you. Stronger, faster, smarter, better looking. Instead of worrying about whether it's fair, concentrate on being your own best. Level playing fields are rare in softball, and everywhere else.

This is oh so true. I had been working hard my freshman year, learning to be a catcher. I worked hard with my high school coach, my personal coach and my rec league coach before my elbow injury. After I came back from my injury, I still worked hard to improve at catcher. Last high school season, I learned that I just wasn't there yet. I sat behind the senior catcher and learned a lot from the senior catcher as well as my current high school coach and the assistants. I'm also learning a lot from the personal coach. I feel like I'm becoming a better catcher for it. Also with the situation with my old field hockey coach, I'm learning how to deal with less than pleasant people.

But every life lesson we learn, especially in our youth, makes for all around, well rounded people.
