My DD's pitching coach, who just finished her first year playing D1, said she is still beating up on her father, practicing together when she is home from school.

Good luck.

She will only be away for 6 weeks this time, so I think I will be OK, but next summer, after she has been playing all year without me catching has me worried...I may have to find that gear I bought and never used.

Just a word of advice. If you go with the steel toe shoes, wear a cup. I had a pitch go off my steel toe and right up my leg. Let's just say, it hurt a lot.

I used to do this until she hit the bucket and it collapsed and I tipped over. (sorry, no video)

My DD cracked a few buckets through the years, but I never had one collapse under me. Buckets are cheap and easy to replace and since I use a bucket cover I do not need yellow buckets, Home Depot orange work great too.

The side kinda buckled and my fat a$$ did the rest.

Good luck to your DD this fall. It’s exciting how many DFP’ers have girls starting college. It’s a crazy journey.

I wear full gear. Even with shin guards a few sneak through and catch a toe or side of foot.

This has happened to me too a couple times and let me warn you don't decide to start stopping the drop balls that you can't get in the dirt by putting your foot up and getting it under your tennis shoe. It works part of the time but when it doesn't it hurts like heck. I'm guessing the thick sole of a steal toed boots would take care of that problem.
