How about a net and a bucket of balls, she pitches the whole bucket and then she collects them, rinse repeat...

I had talked to her pitching instructor about the fact that I cannot squat down, or even sit on a bucket, I just lean over when I am catching her practice. I asked the instructor if I am doing my DD a disservice since I am not low in a typical squatting position. The instructor says my DD is getting used to pitching to the glove and I should not worry about the gloves height. All this to say I am wondering if pitching to the glove is so essential that she should not pitch to a net. Her instructor is away for a week, I will ask her when she gets back. Thanks.

A couple of recommendations:
1) Get 6-gallon bucket instead of a 5-gallon to sit on. The extra height is like sitting on an ADA toilet vs. a regular toilet.
2) Get a swivel top for the bucket. This will aide your mobility.
3) Wear catcher shin guards. I bought a used set of baseball catchers gear for @ $50 on Craigslist.
4) Wear steel toe or hard toe shoes.
5) Do not try to scoop balls in the dirt, swivel your legs out of the way and let them hit the bucket.
6) Remove items like raised home plates that balls can ricochet off.

I used to do this until she hit the bucket and it collapsed and I tipped over. (sorry, no video)

Since 16U she's been throwing to real catchers or into a net. It’s surprising how many girls will jump at the chance to get some catching in.

There are nets with targets and/or grids to aim at.

I would much rather DD pitch to live glove then a net if possible.

I was out of town and bless her heart DW tried to C DD, apparently that lasted 2 pitches before net came out. :)

Now she gives the kid next door a few bucks if I am not around.

Net and trap are always there for her but you can not beat a live catcher.

Try these toe guards http://a.co/6NY0pGk I just keep them in the bag along with some leg protection. I had to lose a toenail to learn this lesson and I was trying to be careful but the bottom just fell out of one pitch and got me in just the right spot. I did get some spray paint made for plastic and painted them black to match the leg guards.

The link failed to open. Could you send the link again? Thanks.

Here you go.

Here is the irony, my DD pitcher's twin sister is a catcher, but because of sibling rivalry, they don't practice well together. My catcher DD caught for my pitcher DD's lesson yesterday, and it went better than I expected. Then again having a real coach, a college player, with them might have reduced the sibling stuff.

I caught my DD myself through 18s. Now she is off to college and I managed to survive without any serious bodily injuries or stitches...but she is coming home after the summer session and my DW has already book a couple of pitching lessons, so I may not be out of the woods yet.

My DD's pitching coach, who just finished her first year playing D1, said she is still beating up on her father, practicing together when she is home from school.

Good luck.
