Impossible to say. I few questions that need to be asked is a) A, B, or C level of ball?, b) do you have a scorekeeper that know the difference between and error and base hit?, c) are you facing quality pitching or pitchers that have a hard time throwing strikes and/or are pitching in the 40mph range?

If you need to know, I would look at what is the batting average compared to her teammates? If she is in the top 3 or 4 on the team in batting average for tournament she is probably doing fairly well? Again really hard to tell with the limited information given.

She has the 2nd highest batting average on her team for the season.

12UB level and has faced Open, A, B and C level pitching this year. 2 days ago she faced an A level pitcher whos team that won A states this year and Nationals last year and hit 4 for 4 with 1 ground out. Yes bookeeper knows what the diff is between an error and a base hit.

.350+

There's really no simple answer, but sometimes it's nice if someone gives you one anyhow.

In my experience of 12U, my own team, etc., I'm guessing the national batting average for 12U travel ball is around .315-.320.

Of course, hitting .350 would be pretty good at the level you're playing. The same .350 hitter might hit .500 at a lower level or .200 at a higher level. It's all contextual.

Also, batting average is just one measure of a hitter's ability. A .400 average with no extra-base hits or walks is not nearly as valuable as a .300 hitter with .500 OBA and .500 SLG.

You can't go 4 for 4 and have a ground out in the same game.

Batting average matters very little at this age. There is such a wide range of pitching and defenses. As long as she's working on the things she needs to improve to compete at the next age and level, and getting her swings in at home, then she's on the right track, even if she weren't at the top of her team. The eye test can work just as well as batting average to tell who are the hitters on the team.

Does she do well against the pitchers in the top 10-20%? Sounds like she did well in her last game, can she maintain that consistency? That's also a good gauge if she's developing toward the next level.

Batting average isn't the stat I look for. No stat is perfect or tells anything close to the whole story, but OPS usually tells me more about how a player is doing than BA.
