I guess it depends on the area there are no restrictions in our area as long as you play in a percentage of the games during the season. In fact the one organization has a team that plays A level tournament all fall, winter, spring and summer - they split them up between the team for the regular season but they who make up the "allstar/select team". They have blown through districts, sectionals, and states (I think they have played maybe 1 close game and by close I mean winning 7-3).

I've always been a little confused by the All-Stars vs. "C" team. We just played in a "C" regional tournament and half the teams there called themselves All Star teams and the other half I think considered themselves "C" teams. We call ourselves a "C" team. The way it works for us is we have a Spring rec league. At the end of the rec league all the girls who played that Spring are eligible to try out for our B and C teams. The B coach picks the top 12 girls and the C coach then gets his pick of the next 12 girls.

I guess an All Star team is the same essentially but they just don't have that extra tryout? They just let all the coaches who coached in Spring help decide?

All-Star teams in our county are decided by girls who turn in a form to say they can be committed to the All-Star season, and cannot have played TB in the spring. Head coaches then all turn in names of girls that they think should be on the team. First 12 unanimous girls are the team. There are no additional try outs (your spring season is your try-out)

Our county plays in 3 tournaments but teams can play in other USSSA or other tournaments if they want. In order to play in the 3 regular tournaments however, they cannot have practiced as a team until the rec season is over - so there cannot be any teams that form in the fall and play all season. The only way they could possibly play together earlier is if the division for that association only had 1 team. But then there aren't usually enough girls on the team to form an entire All-Star team unless the team already had more than 12. I know in our state tournament, I have seen All-Star teams that play all Fall/Spring in USSSA tournaments - not sure if they are playing in Rec tournaments or B/C class...

It'd be interesting if our county decided to create a real All-Star team that was just made up of girls from the All-Star teams - I'm sure they could hold try-outs and form a pretty good team that could compete at State/WS... I see a lot of "county" all-star teams..

The stuff you are referring to is all quite common in GA where all-star teams frequently seek out better competition in B travel tournaments throughout the spring, summer and fall. As long as all of the players are active participants in the Rec league as well it's not an issue for All-Star tournaments. Looks like you may be in Gwinnett county. What they do is unique and not at all indicative of the rest of the state or metro area.

Yea we're in Gwinnett.. It always does seem like we do things way diff than anyone else ;)
That's why I always get confused about how other counties/states do things..

When my DD played All-Star ball (we're in Sandy Springs), it was just the top 12 girls in 10U or 12U from that park. It was not county-wide. I had no idea a neighboring county did things so differently.

Gwinnett has so many parks that even our Tri-County tournament is still mostly just a Gwinnett All-Star tournament - Walton and Barrow also are part of it but usually I've only seen Walton come and I've seen at most 2 teams from that county and it's just usually West Walton or Central Walton. Gwinnett is all based off the parks which is all based on the high schools in the county. When we went to state last year, from 12U to 6U, it seemed like it was the Gwinnett county teams who all won. Not sure about 8U but the 6U team who won has also won the Rec World Series for the past 3 years (twice in 6U and just won again this year in 8U)

I feel like I live in this bubble where I have no idea how things are outside Gwinnett....
