First game of state tournament (10U), DD catching and throws the runner on 3rd into a pickle with a BEAUTIFUL pick-off throw.

The return throw from 3rd a bit up 1st base line. DD snags with backhand and swings around to apply tag on bang-bang play at the plate. DD gets the out (3rd) and hangs onto ball, but walks off field like Frankenstein with tears in her eyes. Hand immediately gets puffy, and she's in a ton of pain. Straight out of dugout to ER where x-rays show dislocated and broken glenoid (shoulder socket).

It was a heart-breaking car ride home, as she knew she was done for year. She had been invited to guest as a catcher for a local team playing in National tourney as well, which she was SUPER excited to play in.

She woke me up at 8 am the next morning and demanded we drive out to watch team play rest of state. I was happy to know her heart was still in it, but it was a very sad day of watching softball for her. The good news is the team rallied nicely in her absence, and finished 4th overall.

MRI later today to determine whether or not surgery is necessary. Hopefully she heals up soon and comes back hungrier than ever.

Yes, that is my lawn-chair bag being used as a temporary sling in waiting room. Don't judge me....

Oh no! I'm so sorry that happened to her. :( I hope she doesn't need surgery and everything heals well.

So Cal
Bummer! I hope she heals quickly with no lasting effects.

I know your struggle...

My DD got dinged hard with a foul tip to the face mask and has been out with a concussion for the last 4 weeks. We were expecting to get doctor clearance for her to be able to play in the TCS World Series next week in Reno. She's been looking forward to this tournament all year. Warming up for our friendlies on Sunday, she was feeding the tee for a teammate. The teammate swung before my DD's hand was out of the way, and she got hit with the bat - broken middle finger on her right hand. Out another 3-4 weeks.

I was actually thinking to myself that's pretty ingenious.

I fractured my glenoid about three years ago. Hopefully the fracture is not displaced and does not require surgery. Either way it is a long recovery. My fracture was not displaced and didn't require surgery and my recovery was four months and it was probably a year before I was pain free. Good luck to your DD. I hope everything works out for you guys
