We are currently at a tournament and two games in a row a family placed their pop up tent right up against the first base side almost directly behind home plate and put the flap down on the side so anyone sitting to the left of them can't see the right side of the infield. I asked them to please put it up and was met with a hostile response.

Rude or am I wrong?

You are not wrong. I think it's common courtesy that if you're going to put up a tent, you need to make sure you're not blocking anyone's view.

If you asked them to put it up and they said no I would be upset.

I put a chair way down the line and people still get in my line of sight, same people that complain about things.

Leave them alone they own the world and only they matter.
