One of the most meaningful is that we were not on the jury, and we did not hear the evidence. We do not know how severe the brain injury was.
That being said, I remember one time when my DD 3's little league team was doing soft-toss hitting drills, and someone stopped them and made them put on helmets for the drills. At the time, I thought it was silly. Now I know better. This was apparently a serious accident that could've been prevented if the girls had been wearing helmets for the soft toss hitting drills.
Its always a good idea to practice the way you play. We must play with a helmet, so we should always practice with one on. (while hitting)
A couple years ago a player wasn't wearing a helmet while hitting the "soft marshmallow" balls called mojo balls.... she had a long finish with low hands, her own barrel cracked her in the back of her head...she always wears a helmet now regardless of the balls being hit.
Last year's coach, 1st meeting required a face mask for 1st, 3rd and P which I do not think was ever enforced. Sounds good though.
As a parent DD wears a facemask in IF, period. I remember 1 time she ran to 3rd without mask, did not stop the game to have someone run it out to her but asked her when she got back in dugout where her facemask was and she said she forgot.
If in practice or game I find it hard to fault if DD gets hit with a ball unless coach has her on top of batter at 3rd for example.
I can not think of any good reason for her to get hit with a bat, especially in HS. 8u for example you need to keep the bats out of thier hand if they are not warming up or hitting with a lot of room.
