We are re-habbing our pitchers' circle on several of our fields and adding clay bricks. Looking for tips and tricks from different experiences. Any DIY links would be great.
If you have a team(s) with speedy slappers you should do the same for the first 10-15ft in front of home plate. Similar to Arizona, Alabama, etc. Also give some some thought to how you cut the grass to achieve the optimal home field advantage.
Maintenance is just as important as installation. Tarps, mound clay, regular watering, tampers and constant attention are key to getting the most out of the bricks.
I should add--please be sure the top of the pitching rubber is set to the same grade as the surrounding surface. I've seen several fields where the rubber is set on top of the grade or even higher! Drives me nuts! I've often just gone out and dug out the soil below and set the rubber to grade. Same with bases--I hate seeing them resemble mushrooms!
