This is not meant to be serious but to poke fun of some observations about guest playing for a few teams that dd played with. Most teams were not like this.
Rule #1-the most important one as a parent:Lie.
For example:if dd been clocked pitching at 54-55...you add 5 mph onto that number. So that means she is a 59-60 mph pitcher. Don't worry, no one will question you because there are 3 other guest pitchers who all are 60 mph pitchers.
Disclaimer:If you do tell the truth, expect your dd not to even be considered for a pitching position on team. That is the next point:Versatile player
If your daughter only plays one position, tell them she plays it all. In fact, she is so good, she can pitch to herself and throw the runner out at 2nd. Because if she isn't versatile, she will be riding the bench since the team has 17 other players with 9 of them being guest players. If you want to be a little more honest, ask the coaches about their daughters. Then you can narrow down the positions your dd plays.

Batting stats:
I have been pretty honest about these. For some reason, dd always hit better when guest playing. So for, guest playing purposes...dd is a power hitter.

Observation notes:
If you see guest players dad in the dugout with the coaches...run and run fast. It doesn't matter if said dad is also a coach. This is not his normal team. This has always seemed to be parent of guest pitcher. If your dd is also guest pitcher, guess where she won't be playing? This is where the versatile player role comes into effect(just as long as it is not the coaches daughter spot...but since you already know where she plays, you will be fine).
So now, all other guest pitchers are sitting the bench except for your dd and the new assistant coach for the day dd(who will be pitching the entire tournament).

Get some popcorn because it will get entertaining. There will always be 1 parent who will get highly upset and cause a scene because her daughter will be a guest player who will be sitting the bench for entire tournament.

Good stuff.

The 5 MPH may be the minimum addition. I had a parent tell me her 14 YO daughter would be hitting 70 MPH by the end of the season. I'd be happy if she hit 55. I'm not sure how she was going to add 20 MPH in 2 months, but sign me up and I'll make a come back.

Speaking of guest playing...DD got asked to play for a team so she took work off to help them. They texted late the night before saying that they didn't need her because their players were able to make it. At that point she wasn't able to get her hours back. She wasn't too happy about that.

Yes ! This recently happened to my DD as well. There are some coaches out there that do this weekly. Great way to introduce yourself (sarcasm font on).

Too funny. My DD has always been treated with respect when playing pickup.

One of my favorite:
Coach doesn't know which guest player belongs to which parent. So ends up talking about your child while you sit next to his wife who happens to be keeping books. Wife ask where they should put your daughter and the coach responds with, "I don't know, put her somewhere in outfield" pauses for a minute and ask wife, "what positions can she play?"

So funny!! We haven't guest played much at all and it was at a low B level when she did so it was a different set of circumstances but I can imagine that what you are saying is right on!!

We have also had the experience of getting called to fill in as a guest pitcher and then got the call Friday afternoon that they didn't need her, just to find out from a friend at the tourney that they were able to get someone better so then dropped my DD. That's always nice too.

Our experience was helping out a team who had almost no pitching, and the parents were in shock and awe that there team got a strike out or a pop up back to the pitcher and made outs. What was less exciting for them was when she induced ground balls or pop ups but their infield wasn't used to having to make any plays cause they were used to getting out of innings with the 5 run rule. In this tourney they had picked up my DD, a pickup catcher and infielder who changed their whole weekend, and what was awkward was all the parents fawning over the guest players for helping them win a tourney for the first time pretty much ever. I just kept feeling so bad for the regular pitchers who were watching all the fuss about the guest players.

Here too. We've had really good experiences with DD guest playing. We've been told occasionally she'd probably pitch and mostly sit but it doesn't often work out that way.

My experience with guest playing has been very good so far. A local A team asked my daughter to play in a tournament, they only needed my daughter to play in the 3 pool play games on Saturday, and the coach was upfront about that. 2 of their regulars were busy Saturday but could make the Sunday games. My played 2nd base for the most part and some outfield here and there. She sat 2 innings in 3 games, and they batted all 10 hitters. She ended up going 3 for 6 with a couple walks.

The team she guested for was a much better team than she is currently playing on. Better hitters, better fielding, better pitching, and better coached. She really learned a lot playing in those 3 games. They won all 3 games, and 2 of the games they won were by slaughter rule. The coach invited my daughter to practice with the team a couple days before the tournament also to get to know the girls a little bit. The other girls were very friendly, and my daughter had a great time playing in those 3 games.
