Bush league or not?

I would consider it bush. But from a practical standpoint, it seams counterintuitive. If the pitcher just threw 3 straight balls, whey would you switch up and give her a different look, if your goal is to draw a walk?

DD has a girl on her HS team that try to left slapper mostly unsuccessfully. After she gets two strikes she switches to the right and strikes out. It is so painful to watch. And when she is on the left side she tries to drag bunt with only her left hand. Never works either. Pick a side and get good!

you see a lot of lame behavior, agreed

the good umpires let it go once or twice....then you see a lot of "she offered" or a generous strike zone to put a stop to it

That is NOT a good umpire

If this were a HS game, then the pitcher should be able to throw a pitch down the middle regardless of whether there is a left handed, right handed or no hitter in the box.

this is a player on our team! she's the reason that I posted the question about the difference between a slap and a drag bunt. she doesn't always swing but on a 3rd strike the coach always argues that she was slapping.
her bunts usually result in a fast roller right to the P or someone else in the IF.
seriously a great kid but the product of bad instruction and bad coaching.

When a batter sticks their bat in the strike zone and waves it around (to distract the pitcher) haven't they swung? Your bat is waving in the strike zone during a pitch. Sounds like that should be a strike to me. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, I don't have a rule book handy, but isn't their language about batters not doing things to intentionally distract/disrupt the pitcher?

Either you are trying to disrupt the pitcher or your bat is moving in the strike zone as an attempt to hit the ball.

We saw the opposite happen quite a bit at 12u. Girls learning to slap start left, get 2 on em, then switch back to right.

Haven't seen it like you described in high school - but I guess the batter could dance a jig if they felt like it, just need P to do their job. It's high school - keep the expectations low and you'll never be disappointed.

We're 10U and you'll see slappers sometimes turn back around on 2 strikes like you said, back to their strong side to try to get the hit. My DD is a pitcher, and I figure any of this stuff she has to deal with only makes her a stronger pitcher. She should be able to hit the zone regardless of which side the girl is on, whether she's fake bunting or real bunting or waving her bat all over the place. We just tell her not to worry too much about what the batter is doing, focus on her catcher and throw the pitch.

Someone mentioned delayed stealing home and whether that is bush league. Heck no. Delayed steals are awesome. We've got a couple of girls who are great at it and it's so fun to watch. When DD was a new pitcher we played an older, A level team that was pretty darn good. She was pitching, catcher threw the ball back and she turned around. Runner on 3 tore off to home and was safe. I wasn't mad, that's the runner's job. We were very new to A ball then I was just impressed the runner pulled it off. They're supposed to try to score. DD should have paid attention, she just had never seen that before. That's the only time that's ever happened. She's not taken her eye off the runner at 3 since.
