So wait until some parent gets a bug up his/her butt about little suzy not being recruited and blames it on fall softball.

It happened in Michigan with Volleyball and Basketball. Basketball was in the fall and volleyball in the winter. Which is opposite how it is in college. A small group (like 3-4) parents made it into a title ix issue and eventually won. Now you have all the boys basketball and the girls basketball teams fighting over the gym for practices and refs in games. In the years after the change it turned out less girls from Michigan were getting scholarships then they were pre change. Apparently college coaches used to be able to watch actual HS games when their teams weren't in season.

I want to say GA recently decided to bring back slow pitch softball in the high school ranks. Haven't heard of any schools doing it yet. So GA may end up with a fastpitch season and a slowpitch season. 1 being fall and the other spring. Only time will tell. Up side is our travel season starts early. We had some great weather in february and march so most of our travel season was played in 60-80 degree weather.

There was a Slow Pitch season this past spring, there were 8 teams that participated. 4 from the middle to north part of the state and 4 from the south. The tourney was held at Twin Creeks the middle of April.

Oregon HS softball is played in the spring. I presume it is to see how many games can get rained out, or how soggy the outfield can be and still play the game? :)

No MS ball that I know of in the Portland area.

Same thing happened in AZ about twenty years ago.

Girls Basketball played in the spring and HS softball played in the winter.

Some basketball parents sued the state saying their daughters weren't getting a fair shot at scholarships, because they had all been handed out before the spring season started.
The State HS association was forced to move all Girls basketball to the traditional winter season and all softball to the spring.
