First of all my dd has pitched long enough to know better. Last night dd comes into the game 3rd inning to pitch. Freshman pitcher was falling apart, so coach had dd go in. Dd starts pitching to the batter, 3rd base coach starts yelling to ump, she needs to present the ball. Dd never shows the ball always in her glove, learned that from Hillhouse when she was taking lessons from him. The ump tells the coach that she is legal. The coach wasn't satisfied with the answer. Now 1st base coach starts saying the same thing. They said this at least twice a batter. Then now the scorekeeper starts yelling the same thing. were talking every batter that went up at least 2 times when the batter was up. Well it worked they got into dds head and she was getting mad. She even addressed the 3rd base coach and said you "don't know what you are talking about". She went from striking the first 2 batters out too falling apart. She got out of that inning no runs scored but now really mad.

She is the second batter up to bat. The coach yells to his pitcher to not show the ball and see how she likes it. Dd is pissed now and tries to hit as hard as she can, swinging at crap. She ends up striking out, but gets on because dropped 3rd strike and a run scores also. Comes out to pitch the 4th inning and is just all over the place walks a girl, gives up a hit right down the middle. The whole time the coaches and scorekeeper keep saying she needs to present the ball. Gives up 4 runs in that inning. Coach pulls her when she comes in, I agree with the coach, dd lost all focus. I think that the coaches were bush league. I guess I would think the umpires would of told them to stop, but they didn't. I hate high school softball.

That's really irritating. If I were the umpire I'd have told him to shut up about it once I ruled. And that myth! It follows you. DD also does not come up with the ball in her hand; she keeps it in her glove. I posted on here double checking the rule after yet another person told us she was illegal. I knew it wasn't but people say it often enough that I started to doubt myself. I think when coaches act like children they should be ashamed of themselves. I'm sorry they got her rattled.

It baffles me that the biggest concerns is not the crow hopping, replanting that is very common across the board, from college level all the way down to 10u but coming out of the glove.

baffles me as to why blue did not step in at that point.....did your coach ask for some help on getting them to stop yelling?

No her coach likes to be friendly with everybody. Never said a word, I wanted too, but I have said enough and would like to watch her play the rest of her senior year. The ump ting still bothers me. But at work this morning coworker told me that these coaches on that team are like that.

umpires here would have more than likely put a stop to it.....some would have taken more time, but.......i know a few that would have stopped the game, asked to see the rule they are referring to in writing, and tell them to pipe down otherwise lol

Agree that the umps should have intervened if it was that blatant. Don't know if it was bush league, but it certainly showed the coach's ignorance of the rules. That said, your daughter needs to learn to shut out the idiots and not let them get to her. Talking back to the 3B coach is never going to be a winning proposition.

yeah, we had a team get under ours skin back in 10u......every batter, twice through the order, squared like they were going to bunt, pulled the bat back and took the pitch......blatantly waving it at her, no intent to bunt whatsover.....every pitch just about for 15-18 batters in a row

it worked, they scratched out 3 runs against a pitcjer they couldn't hope to hit, and our ump let it ride until tempers outside the fence got a little hot, and their coach started yapping that it "wasn't bush", but he stopped

sunday they tried it, 2nd batter found her strike zone much bigger, and got called on one that she "offered" on, and the umpire showed him the other coach that he knew what he was trying to do, and they stopped

my girl learned a lot from that experience, and it was a turning point for her learning to own her own headspace, and not letting others in there......

Don't know how to get rid of the "Present the ball" myth. I'm pretty sure I answered a similar thread a couple weeks ago. My DD had a 3rd base coach (alleged "Professional coach") barking all thru the game. Finally convinced the HP Ump in the 3rd, I had to get the field ump involved to set them all straight. Oh, and they were losing 12-0 while coach was making a fool of himself at 3rd.
