Never thought about it before, but reading through a recent thread about HRs in FPSB it made me wonder why in Ca the HR rate in FPSB is so much higher than the HR rate in baseball. Personally, I’ve always believed in baseball they should move the fences in until the HR rate is reasonably close to MLB, and it looks as though in softball they’ve managed to do a much better job of it. What's the reason for it?

Have you considered that many HS softball games are played on fields without fences? Doubles become HR's real quick as the ball rolls forever. DD has given up 8 HRs this HS season, only two went over the fence.

How many baseball games are played without fences? My guess is not many....

What about the rate of touchdowns in the NFL, vs goals in the NHL when compared to college softball games played North of the Mason Dixon line and east of the Mississippi river in months containing the letter "R"?

BBCOR bats are the reason numbers are so low in HS baseball, college the same.

BBCOR has certainly affected the number of HRs in HS and college, but even during the height of hot bats, the rate of HRs being hit in HS was far below that in MLB. And what about back in the days before metal? I played then and can guarantee HRs weren’t flying out of HS fields at the same rate they were in ML fields.

I have no idea how many SB games are played on fields without fences across the state. I know of 1 local HSVBB field without a fence and another without a centerfield fence.

Now that’s a very intelligent response to the thread, for a chimpanzee. If you think the thread is meaningless and doesn’t interest you, why respond at all? The only person you’ve impressed is yourself.

Just pointing out the absurdity of the question, comparing totally different sports and somehow thinking there is a correlation of the information. But by all means continue on with the mental masturbation. :)

I don't think its absurd. . .

I've thought for a long time that fences in HS baseball and under should be 300'-325' and softball should be moved to 220', maybe 250'

ETA: FWIW, I also think Majors Little League baseball fence should be moved at least 225'.
