Not just bottom of 7th. Also hit in 4th or 5th. Only thing I can come up with is that Barnhill might have choked and walked her. Almost happened as she ran it to 3-2 even though she knew King was not going to swing.

The way FSU did their substitutions it took the DP out of the lineup. King did not sub for Burroughs, she subbed for the starting catcher. Don't know why they did it this way.

Good question. Would have been a perfect time (with the count at 3-2) for Barnhill to get called on an Illegal Pitch. ;-)

What are you saying? A sub had already hit for King before the bottom of 7th and they had already burned her re-entry? This would be the only reasonable explanation, but I don't remember it.

Look at the box score here:

Florida vs Florida State (May 03, 2017)

King was never pinch hit for. She did not go in the lineup in Burroughs's spot, she went into the #4 spot.

edit - all the links I'm posting do not work when I submit the post. I've noticed this the past few days on the site when others post a link it doesn't work. Using Chrome, tried Explorer, same thing.

But, point was that if you look up the box score online you can see King was subbed in the #4 spot. No clue why FSU wouldn't just do a straight up King for Burroughs, but they also swapped out catchers too, maybe that had something to do with it? As the second catcher when in the lineup for the DP.

Only thing I can think of is that they wanted to be able to move King and Burroughs in and out of the circle. Mississippi State did this in game #3 vs South Carolina with Silkwood who was the DP and another pitcher who played RF. Late in the game they were making 2-4 changes per inning depending on who was at the plate. Sometimes for only a single batter. Hated to see SC lose but it was very effective and a brilliant strategy.

Am I the only person who thought that if the FSU 3B had not cut the throw from LF in the 1st inning they had a good shot at the runner at home?
