Then the umpires kicked it because NPF rule reflects NCAA and other than a minor clarification on a possible obstruction call, the rule is the same as USA/ASA. The only way it is an IP is if the pitcher intentionally rolls the ball toward the plate

Thank you for the correction MTR. The ball slipped out during delivery, went straight up about 20 feet or so and landed behind the circle. It was called an IP for whatever reason. At least now I know.

I was an AC for a 14u team the HC also coached baseball for 20 years. I had to explain to him that home plate was not foul and that a hit that starts foul but ends fair is a fair ball. He says back, thats why I need you I don't understand all the softball rules, I'm so used to baseball. Not sure how I didn't laugh, but he didn't believe me when I told him that these were also true in baseball.

Then he sucked as at baseball since the rules noted here are the same in baseball

From NPF rules:

Rule 10.8.)
The Pitch
7. Dropped During Pitch
The effect for a pitch dropped during its delivery varies based on when it happens. 10.7.1
When the ball is dropped by the pitcher before her hands have come
together and then separated.
EFFECT—The ball is live. There is no penalty. The base runner(s) may advance with liability
to be put out.
10.7.2 When the ball accidentally slips from the pitcher’s hand during the act of delivering
the pitch.
EFFECT—If the batter does not have a reasonable opportunity to hit the pitch, a defensive
player may retrieve it, the ball is live, a ball is awarded to the batter, and the base runner(s)
may advance with liability to be put out. If the batter would have had a reasonable
opportunity to hit the pitch but the defensive player retrieves it, obstruction is ruled, the
ball is dead and the batter and all other base runners are awarded one base (whether forced or
not).
10.7.3 The pitcher shall not deliberately drop, roll or bounce the ball in order to prevent the
batter from hitting the pitch.
EFFECT—Delayed dead ball is signaled and illegal pitch is enforced. (See Rule 10.8.)

Ah, so Momo's Dad was right all along!

Good to see an ump who knows what he is doing.
(That is not to disparage other umps, just that at 12U rec ball, umps range from extremely knowledgeable to completely green.)

There weren't any runners on base yesterday, but this happened twice during a 12u friendly yesterday. The umpire called it a ball both times, but waited until the catcher or pitcher touched the ball to call call it a ball.

Ump made the correct call a IP should not had been called as long as ball touched glove feet on rubbing etc... it was simply a ball and a live ball.

Again, thank you not only for the correction, but posting the actual rules from the rule-set. I wasn't being facetious in the slightest. I would rather be corrected and found wrong than continue in a misconception due to an incorrect call.

there are more than one form of illegal pitch. if she lifted her foot instead of sliding, or the ball was carried back to the glove hand. we werent there so we don't know. regardless , if the ump didn't call a dead ball its live.
