My daughter swears she hits better with a pair of hitting gloves that someone gave her, vs an expensive pair that I bought her. She says the old pair have positive energy....bring her luck. I say whatever it takes.

I have a player with some borderline OCD going on. She is always cleaning off the dirt off bases, home plate, pitching rubber. Some umpires have noticed and have helped her out with the brush.

I bought my daughter a really expensive glove when she moved up out of T-ball. For some reason she insisted on using the catcher's raggedy old fielding glove. It drove me crazy, but she played well with the raggedy glove so I learned to let it go.

My DD is primarily a catcher but for years the only glove that she would use in the field was my old Wilson 13" softball glove that I used in high school. And I am old. Luckily I kept it oiled over the years but it was still a 20+ year old glove - floppy and broken in incorrectly and stored without a ball in it. But she loved it and did very well with it. It spent many days at the local leather repair shop, getting re-laced, patched and repaired. I bought and returned half a dozen or more gloves trying to entice her to switch to a newer model before my old glove finally died. Her new glove had to go be pounded and oiled a bunch of times before it "finally felt okay".

She also still wears her first chest protector that we got her when she was 12 - I don't even fight with her on that...

Hair is braided for softball. Hair is in a ponytail for basketball.

That's the way the mojo likes it and rewards accordingly.

We have a ritual, before every game - she sprays herself with whatever body spray is her flavor of the month, and I say, "Oh good. Now you won't stink." She got into the car after a practice last week and said, "Well, I didn't have my spray today. You're right; without it, I stunk."

Next day? My car smelled like rolling bath and body. Nobody wanted to sit next to me, but DD did great.

She's also like Admiral Benson when it comes to her bows. Wanted me to drive 18 miles back home for a bow. Um, no. "But how can I be me without my bow?"

DD ripped one of her batting gloves last HS season right before playoffs. I bought her new gloves which sat in her bag until playoffs were over. There was a picture of her in the local paper high giving her coach and you could clearly see 3 fingers sticking out of the glove. Everywhere I went people would tell me that C needed new batting gloves.
