For me, the Fagan name has been associated with so much drama it influences my perception of them. I can see the Fagan brand (if there's such a thing) being impacted, at least in the world of softball going forward.

Not sure if it is true, but I read somewhere that one of the Fagan sisters who was dismissed from UF, was one of the primary parties responsible for the drama surrounding Earlywine at Missouri last season.

What's sad is that people can't / don't / won't recognize that this is NOT about smoking pot
You would be right if the police had not been involved. Coaches are allowed to have silly rules for their teams, but those should not be statist concerns. The fact that the players had any police contact whatsoever is where the case loses any reasonableness.

"The arrest reports indicate Auburn police arrested the girls after responding to a call."
"Each faces up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $6,000."

If they had been out in the street causing a public disturbance because they were intoxicated, you might be able to justify a fine of up to $6000. But according to the arrest reports, that's not what happened. So yeah, it is about smoking pot.

"Have you ever been arrested?" is a question they may have to answer at some point, but while a truthful answer might disqualify them from some job opportunities, it may open the door a bit wider to some others. I'd argue that it's probably a wash.

The good news is that the odds of Clint Myers being back next season are @ 50/50 according to the Auburn message boards, and there are a number of great head coaches who would love to coach at Auburn if he leaves.

That's true. Even in state at a couple of smaller schools we have coaches that are great if they didn't try and steal a P5 coach. Cozart at UNA and Newell at AUM are outstanding and have success everywhere they go. Both have national championships.

All the years of work that these girls put in. The driving to practice three times a week since they were ten years old, the missed school dances and family functions. The hot days spent sweating at travel tournaments, eating bad food and playing the game hard. The money put out by the parents and the vacation days used to help them achieve their dream.

Forgive me for saying this but that should not all be forfeited because of one bad decision made while in college. They have worked their whole lives to get where they are and it is all done because someone was a snitch?

I don't condone what they did and they should be punished, but to lose everything over a relatively benign, albeit stupid decision should just not happen. They should be suspended for several games and allowed to continue their college career. They are kids and although held to a higher standard as athletes their lives should not be over. We have all done worse in one way or another.

Look, all three of them have had a great ride over the years, they have been playing softball at a very high-level for many, many years, are/were getting a scholarship and playing D1 for the best conference in the nation (SEC). They made a mistake, they will be suspended, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are back in their uniforms real soon as Auburn makes a run for a national title. This isn't a death sentence...

That's a great question and it leads to others. Did he know when he brought him on staff? At some point, did he know what was going on and attempted to cover it up? If he didn't know, as the head coach, should he have known?

As the head coach, it's his responsibility even though that's not completely fair. I think the nepotism in the situation makes it even worse.

The image right now is a program out of control and that's on the head coach. Maybe the image doesn't match reality.

No doubt, the nepotism thing always puts a different light on any problem that could come up...

Easy to take a partial sentence and use it out of content / context! Example: "Coaches are allowed to have silly rules". Yes sir they are, But ONCE you sign that scholarship offer you have agreed to ACCEPT and ADHERE to the coaches SILLY rules! You think the rules are stupid, silly, foolish, etc, don't accept them nor the scholarship!

I have not seen anything official, but speculation on the Auburn message boards is that they will miss the series vs. USCe this weekend and possibly one more. They have not been dismissed from the team.

Precedent has been set by football and basketball that a short suspension is appropriate punishment for a first offense. To do much more would open the university up to some possible legal questions.

I feel really conflicted over this whole thing. I'm trying not to let my opinion be colored by the fact that I'm 100% in favor of legalization, and expunging the records of every single person with a marijuana offense in the entire country. Really, I agree with you. But I can also see the other side of it, rules are rules, etc. It's a really tough call. It'd be easier if it were drunk driving or heroin or something. Smoking pot in your own home is just so dang harmless. It's hard to feel like they should lose everything over that. Back and forth...
