"possession of marijuana in the second degree" - I'm sure that sounded really intelligent when someone wrote it into "law".

I don't see anything wrong with coaches regulating consumption rules for players on their semi-pro teams, but why should the (police) state be involved? Hopefully these silly "charges" will be tossed directly so the players can return to work.

Back on the dirt...

PossessionThere are two degrees or levels of unlawful possession of marijuana in Alabama. First degree is possessing marijuana for something other than personal use or for personal use after a previous conviction of unlawful possession of marijuana. This is a Class C felony (the lowest level of felony in Alabama). This can get you between 1 and 10 years in prison and up to a $15,000 fine.

Possession of pot for personal use is only a Class A misdemeanor (the highest misdemeanor in Alabama). This is possession in the second degree. A Class A misdemeanor can be sentenced to not more than a year in jail and up to a $6,000 fine.

It doesn't matter what we think about the law, these girls should know better.
What will be interesting to hear, is what brought the cops in the first place.
When I read the name Fagan, I actually said "Oh, no," out loud.

Honestly, I'm glad it happened (not for these girls sake), so that players at all levels know there are consequences for your actions. This is making national news, and is definitely getting publicity in the softball circles. DD has had to battle peer pressure her entire senior year regarding underage drinking. DD and I just had a good long talk about this Auburn situation, and it drives the point home, these athletes have too much going for them, and too much to loose to do stupid things like that.

Just heard the news and had to jump on to see what was being said. Rough year for Auburn for sure. Agree with Knightsb, a strong lesson to be learned from it for many young ladies out there.
