**Sure, everyone makes mistakes, give them another chance, they're too young to be held accountable, let them move on, rules are made to be broken.** #Sarcasm off....
At what age should we enforce the rules (rules which are very well known)? Would you feel differently about this if it was a group of 14/16U athletes? Maybe more acceptable if they were arrested for public intoxication or DUI (I'm not up on the drinking age in Alabama)? Or how about inappropriate use of social media or cyber-bullying? As parents and as coaches all of these things (and many more) are hopefully being discussed with our kids and they are being warned that the consequences are very real. Yes, it's sad that these girls are suffering and feeling humiliated because of their poor choices (doesn't matter how you feel about the use of weed, they weren't exactly smoking pot in a public protest of the law). Each of these athletes has been given a tremendous opportunity to play this sport at a very "high" (ok, elite) level that most players will only dream of. They were up celebrating a big win from the day before and I certainly get that but our kids have been making sacrifices to play ball for years in hopes of getting a chance to play at a school like Auburn...once they get there should that self-discipline not continue?

Exactly. Whereven is the line drawn? I read this a while bakc and it really resonates here..about stretching the rules. To see the altercation between Walton and Fagan with zero consequences made me sad. What are we teaching? Give this a read again..
Sorry can't get the link to attach. It is the Seventeen Inches article.

I feel like I was the only one in this thread that drank underage, and had a toke on occasion while under the age of 21.

I would really like to see what the percentage of college kids are, that drank before 21 or smoked weed at sometime during their college career.

You STILL don't get it! About making sacrifices to honor your commitment! I can't explain it any more SIMPLE than that!

My goodness. Ease up Francis. They're kids.

We were all kids once and most of us had fun in our youth. I'm sorry if you got passed when the party invitations got handed out.

No they are not kids. These are adults. Several that are with me right now agree that it was incredibly stupid and immature. They are holding them to a much higher standard than many who have posted in this thread. Understand that these young ladies put their heart and soul into softball and take it very seriously. Collectively as a group and many as individuals are thoroughly pissed off. No passes are being given.

Yes everyone makes mistakes, Yes I drank in college before age 21. No I didn't smoke weed or do other drugs. I followed the team, school rules AND laws of my state and community..it was not that hard. Why can't we hold ourselves accountable for anything anymore??! Yes kids make mistakes. There are consequences for choices and bad decisions. Fagan should have been disciplined for not shaking hands after the Florida game and then shoving a coach- being permitted to show such poor sportsmanship with no consequence (I am not defending Walton at all, just addrrssing fagan first disrespecting her opponents the team, the game and her university by her refusal to shake hands) So are we really surprised she and others think nothing of pushing it further??

So team rules and the laws of your state allowed you to drink while underage? Do I think marijuana should be legal absolutely. Do I think the suspension they received was warranted, absolutely. What I don't agree with is painting them as bad people or that their lives should be ruined.

Drank underage = yes
"toked" or did any drug = no

BUT, I was not under a scholarship where those things were prohibited. That makes the difference.
