Its not 'daddy ball' if positions and playing time is based off of attitude and skill level like on your DD'S team. On DD'S travel team all three coaches have kids on the team. The travel coaches are honest and also darn good at coaching. They put players in the positions that make the team successful, they don't play favorites.

I haven't seen one travel team that didn't have atleast one parent coaching. Many times the coaches DD'S are the best players on the team and genuinely deserve that starting SS position. There is nothing wrong with this. In fact it's very good.

I don't consider our situation "daddy ball" which is why I used the quotes.

If you are playing SS correctly your footwork will be such that, on balls straight at you, your momentum is taking you towards first base as you are catch the ball..try doing that as a lefty and tell me how throwing to first is not awkward. For 2B what percentage of throws are to 2nd or 3rd vs. 1st? 30/70? Agree about the RH RF.

I guess using this argument, pitchers could only be right-handed?

Gimme break. Take a look at a ML SS field a ground ball straight at him and tell me my statement regarding SS is wrong. Pitchers have a lot more time
to throw to first hence the footwork I am speaking about isn't necessary.

Are we talking about effectiveness, or how it looks? More "footwork" is often required for a LH pitcher to pivot and throw to 1B than for a LH SS. I've seen my kid do it effectively from every infield position.

Effectiveness, e.g. even with perfect footwork it is going to take more time for a lefty SS to have to pivot and throw to first. As I said, a pitcher has more time to make a throw to 1B then a SS does so it is less important..plus the pitcher has some other important things to do (like pitch..)that would balance out any negatives related to throwing to 1B

Look, I am not saying it is impossible to play SS as a lefty and I am sure your DD is wonderful, but all other things being equal a RH SS has an advantage over a LH SS.

At a "kid" level, that's great and fine. If you can name me 1 LH throwing SS in the modern era of MLB, you can color me surprised!

Texas A&M had a two time Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year that was a lefty 2B. My DD has has played middle infield for both her varsity team and travel team. The only awkward thing for her was taking a throw down while at SS. She is just about as quick as a RH SS on fielding a ground ball. She has been lucky and always played for travel coaches that believed girls should learn every position growing up. From 8U-12U she ran drills at every IF position every practice as we rotated through and she was held to the same expectations as our regular infielders. It was the best thing anyone could do for her. It has given her the opportunity to be a valuable utility player as an 8th grader playing varsity. She has started every game since coming back from a knee injury and has played 5 positions.

Maybe we need to start a protest group to "Free the Lefties".

2B is not SS..have there been any All-American lefty SS? Again, SS have the least amount of time to get the ball to 1st base of all the IF. My freshmen year in college I switched from SS, which I had played all my life, to 2B. The difference in what I am speaking about regarding getting the ball out quickly was quite eye-opening.

Lefty 2b I can see working at a high level since while disadvantaged in throwing to first, which is less important at 2B than SS since you have more time to get the ball to 1st, they have an advantage over RH when throwing to 2B on DP. As a RH 2B that was the most difficult thing for me to learn to do correctly and efficiently.
