We are having a very good experience right now playing on a "daddy ball" team. Both the HC's DD and mine are catchers. So far they have split catching duties evenly every other game with the other playing 3rd. I would say they both have the same skill level so this is extremely fair. Not all circumstances are the same.

Ok - I stand corrected - Lol!

To answer questions asked above...this is travel ball. HC doesn't play daddy ball with his own kid - but he does everything possible to pacify AC. AC wanted his daughter to catch - so they booted DD for a while until it became painfully obvious that AC's DD did not want to catch. So they booted DD from 1st (which probably isn't her best position anyway because she is so little - although she has a vaccuum for a glove and can jump!). AC's DD doesn't move. So unless the ball was thrown right to her glove she was going to cost the team an out. So...now DD has been booted from CF for AC's DD. It is exhausting.

DD is a pretty effective slapper - but she can hit away too. She is leadoff batter.

I don't think there is any fear of DD losing a spot in the top 9 - but I will say - she will be looking for a new team come July...(for reasons not listed here - playing LF is far from a deal breaker - it just seemed strange to me).

ETA: and she will be running track come May! :)

You better be carefull or AC's DD will be chasing your DD out of LF pretty soon.

A lefty throwing to 2B from LF is no more awkward than a righty throwing to 2B from RF.

Lefty play at SS is awkward because of the throw-down to 2B on a steal more than anything else. With decent footwork, a lefty can easily play 2B; their throw to 2B/3B is natural, and on a bunt rotation to 1B, their glove is on the desirable side.

If you are playing SS correctly your footwork will be such that, on balls straight at you, your momentum is taking you towards first base as you are catch the ball..try doing that as a lefty and tell me how throwing to first is not awkward. For 2B what percentage of throws are to 2nd or 3rd vs. 1st? 30/70? Agree about the RH RF.

RH already have the majority of the infield and now people are wanting to take the OF from us lefties too?

Its not 'daddy ball' if positions and playing time is based off of attitude and skill level like on your DD'S team. On DD'S travel team all three coaches have kids on the team. The travel coaches are honest and also darn good at coaching. They put players in the positions that make the team successful, they don't play favorites.

I haven't seen one travel team that didn't have atleast one parent coaching. Many times the coaches DD'S are the best players on the team and genuinely deserve that starting SS position. There is nothing wrong with this. In fact it's very good.

As far as leftys are concerned. My lefty went to a D1 college camp and she listed middle infield as her positions. I would have liked to see her in the outfield but she likes middle infield so I went with it. She was the only lefty at the camp. After camp coach talked to me and said "she plays middle infield?" I quickly said "yes but I know she should play 1st or outfield.." he interrupted "no, we recruited a lefty SS. She is our starting 1st baseman."

That being said I still wonder if it's too late to switch her over lol.

It does take above average footwork to make it work from SS. It's fun to watch a lefty 2nd baseman spear a would be base hit up the middle, pivot and throw to firstbase. Looks surprisingly smooth.
