Here is the dilemma. First year team playing in the first "B" USSSA tournament of the year. The girls won 6 straight games and had 5+ run differential. Get notice today we've being run already to "A". Mandatory! No competition local only out of state. I don't think 9 year old girls shouldn't be playing up 3 years to compete in 12C ball. Need some guidance here.

Anyone successfully had the reversal performed A back to B? Any ideas on how to fight this mandate?
Seems like destroying the team and or the girls summer may happen. Need 10,000 grand to travel! Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ksphenom's Dad

in 10U in our state (WA) there are only a few "A" teams and a bunch of "B" teams, however most of the USSSA tournaments are open (except for the state tournament), meaning that both A and B play together if there are enough teams in the tournament they will brake the teams into Gold, Silver and sometimes even Bronze for Bracket play on Sunday. Not sure how it works it in your state but you may want to give the local area director a call and ask them for advice. Good Luck.

Only 16 active "B" teams in the state and ONLY 6 "A" teams in the state. Nothing like telling girls they worked to hard now softball is at risk and only chance to play on the weekends if a parent wins the lottery.

How difficult would it be to play ASA or a different organization? I understand you would have to change any schedule you already had in mind but it sound like you have to do that anyway. I would be making a call to the USSSA director and explain the cost and travel concerns that you have. Maybe when you tell him you won't be playing any USSSA tournaments due to the cost and travel concerns he may change his mind.

Normally I would say since you are doing so well in class B you should move up to class A but since there are only 6 A teams that is a issue. The other option would be to play in the open tournaments and find some other tournaments in a different organization.

I didn't know they did that. There are a couple of teams here that are sooo obviously playing down and sandbagging but USSSA never does a thing about it. They move you after one tournament? That makes no sense.

Are they all '07's? If so register 9U open. If you have some '06's, you can email your state director and plead your case. You will probably do well in that regard if you can show how it affects your team for State and Nationals (like we will have to do TCS or ASA state/nationals because of the change in dates/locations). However, since most tournaments are open, you will likely not get much help unless you can show them that it affects their bottom line.

Where are you? I don't see how being reclassed as an A team is going to cost you $10k in travel costs.

Can't you go play another sanction? ASA? NSA? USFA? Pony? AFA?

If you played A, you'd play against other 10u A teams, right? What's wrong with playing A? You're kids are only going to get better playing better competition.

Ksphenom,
This is normal and you will find that other "top" B teams are getting the same notice plus you will have some teams register B and only play open or A tourneys.
So no worries they do this every year :)

What's your overall record versus 10UB teams?

Usually USSSA takes several tournaments into consideration before they force a team to move up. For USSSA to move a team up, that team has to have a history of dominating at the current level. I've never seen USSSA reclassify a team after just one event. The 2017 season started last fall, so if you take into account how your team placed at the start of the 2017 season (fall 2016) and how they have placed this spring (spring 2017) you may realize why your team was reclassified. I've seen teams reclassified after several 1st and 2nd place finishes in the lower division, the reclassification was initiated because other lower class teams started complaining to USSSA.

We played on a team last year that classified as A (per org rules). We were not really A level, lost all the time, everyone was miserable. Parents were uptight and pressuring their kids, kids were freaking out about their intense parents & unhappy coaches. There are definite disadvantages to playing A if you're not really to that level yet. The team disbanded and the girls scattered.
