Here is the dilemma. First year team playing in the first "B" USSSA tournament of the year. The girls won 6 straight games and had 5+ run differential. Get notice today we've being run already to "A". Mandatory! No competition local only out of state. I don't think 9 year old girls shouldn't be playing up 3 years to compete in 12C ball. Need some guidance here.

Anyone successfully had the reversal performed A back to B? Any ideas on how to fight this mandate?
Seems like destroying the team and or the girls summer may happen. Need 10,000 grand to travel! Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ksphenom's Dad

I would roll with it for at least a couple tournaments. Maybe since they don't have many "A" teams they are trying to build it up. If you go two tournaments and go 0 for 6/8 depending on guarantee and get run ruled every other game then petition to play down again. If you go 3-5 and struggle a little, time to roll up the sleeves and get to work...you might just be one of those teams on the edge.

Not sure what the money issue is about are all the "B" tournaments in town but every "A" tournament is over a hundred miles away? Sound like a small USSSA organization there should be other opportunities. Where are you?

First I'd like to thank all of you for responding to this thread.
Update:
From what I understand a team playing in our division has a head coach that seems to be close friends with the director of tournament we played in. This director allegedly called or emailed the the state and had us moved.

What that director didn't know is that team that he allegedly called on behalf of won three tournaments in a row and was still considered a "B" team.

Once a thorough review the state reset all the teams including some sandbagging ones down in"C".

* We would love to play A teams but with no teams to play local this becomes a logistical nightmare. Open tournaments in Kansas that contain C teams requires all teams to play down to C rules.

* Oklahoma does this right and Kansas doesn't. They make open tournaments where everyone plays up to B/A rules

What is the difference in the rules between A/B and C rules?

C Rules 5 runs max per inning, no drop 3rd strike, only can advance/steal one base at a time unless ball in play. Can't steal home.
The other divisions are just normal softball rules. KS is just weird. They don't seem to publish the rules for open tournament. They send emails to coaches. In OK they post everything online. No questions need to be asked just look them up. Sometimes they have combo B/C rules. No drop third strike and can steal all bases except for home. Gotta love it.

I'm in KS also, and I own a complex that runs USSSA. PM me and if your close enough, I'll make sure you have some Open tourneys with A/B rules.

This happened to us the first year DD played travel ball. The team rostered 10c and placed in the top two at their first few tournaments so they started playing 10b but stayed rostered C. We got notified a couple of weeks later that we had been moved to B full time. It turns out there was a coach calling in a few of the better C teams and complaining. Amazingly his team stayed rostered C all year and finished with only one loss...

Allowing other teams to call you in for your record just seems like a can of worms. Almost like TV viewers being able to call in and report illegal play in golf.

On the other hand, maybe NCAA umps need help from the viewers to be able to see IP's.... LOL

I completely agree.

This guy wanted to win so much that he worked harder at eliminating competition than making his team better. I actually heard him tell an opposing coach that there was no way their pitcher should have been playing C ball. It was a 1-0 game at the time. That team magically got promoted a couple of weeks later.

Not sure what you are talking about. USSSA on the Kansas site in the KC Metro area usually has a full compliment of A/Gold teams playing across all levels every weekend except in April/May because of Kansas High School ball and August/September because of Missouri High School ball. KC ASA starts hosting all of their A/B tourneys starting the end of May the rest of the time they play OPEN and I have never played an OPEN tournament down to C rules.

If you are concerned about not being able to play A in the Kansas/Kansas City/Missouri then you are not looking very hard. They run several TOP Gum Events/USSSA Elite events and high level ASA events. USSSA Elite Nationals in played at Mid America.

Now if you are out by Dodge City I can't help you. I know several Phenom teams (sorry for all the issues that group had over the last couple of years) but there is plenty A to play in this area.
