My DD handles the Team's finances and one of her duties is to pay the umps.

One ump calls out to her after the game "hey Natalie, you spelled Dennis' name wrong."

How did I spell it?

"Gary"

lol.

Sitting in the crowd can be pretty funny at times. We had a girl pinch run for the catcher at our last game. The catcher was on 2nd base, the pinch runner went into the game and stood on first base. The pinch runners dad yells from the stands and tells his daughter "go stand on the other 2nd base" The kids make you chuckle at 10u.

If I had a dime for every time I had to say "your other left!" to a girl who, well, I guess left/right can be confusing!

We had a 14U player that we asked to bunt in practice, bless her heart she spoke right up. I do not know how to bunt, no one has ever shown me.

New Teams and players are always fun. :)

An 8U girl swung at a pitch that was way over her head.

Her coach: "Did that pitch look good to you?"

Kid, confidently: "Yes."

Coach, trying not to laugh: "All right. If you like the pitch, keep swinging."

I appreciate a player who will admit something like this! What I usually get are a bunch of nods and then 5 minutes later I realize they have no idea what's going on and just didn't want to admit it. I've now added "Do you all know what I mean?" to the end of any point so at least now I sometimes get some confused blank stares or head shakes. They still don't speak much. :D

Coaching U-10 rec a couple of years ago...first year player, big kid, about 3/4 of the way through the season she comes back to the dugout after yet another strikeout looking crestfallen. I'm like, "Don't worry, good swings up there but try to only swing if you think it's a strike." She looks at me: "Coach, I don't know what a strike means." Ooops...
