As a PC I relish the opportunity to stand behind a screen next to my pitcher while they throw to live hitters. We do this in our TB practice but not nearly enough. The important part of this exercise for all concern would be to make sure you keep it at a realistic game tempo.

Glad to hear from the parent of a pitcher. It's important to know that pitchers would benefit from this because if you don't attract competent and willing pitchers, it won't work.

Question for pitcher parents - Is 24 batters too many? What's the ideal for a pitcher?

If you throw a 7 inning game you will face at least 21 hitters so 24 is not too much. Most pitchers tend to a limit of around 100-120 pitches so unless they regularly go deep in the count 24 should not be an issue. What I would suggest is rotating pitchers in and out after 3 - 4 hitters to keep it as game like as possible. Maybe have 2 -3 pitchers per field. They key to this is QUALITY reps not quantity so keep the pace reasonable. This also benefits the hitters as they will see multiple pitchers.

I don't know about the number of batters. 24 batters in a game equals roughly 1:30 to 2 hour game when you count between innings swap o to d, warm-ups, plays etc. 24 batters without that and even swapping P's every 3 to 4 batters would be quite a bit shorter time frame but around the same number of pitches as a game. Fatigue could hit a little sooner. Good for conditioning? Don't know. But like Riseball said I would love for PC to be standing there behind a net giving feed back with her on the dirt in a live setting instead of always on a mat indoors. Maybe he could find those 2 to 3 mph she loses when she goes on dirt.

When out there in the dirt behind a screen I can certainly help a kid with their mechanics. But the biggest benefit is working on their mindset and the pitching process. You can simulate this in the bullpen but nothing like being in their ear while throwing live to a batter while simulating different game scenarios.

DD has pitched way too much and she has pitched 0, parent or player needs to keep track of it. They should know before hand what they are willing to do so you can plan.

I would also reach out to college pitchers. They are often looking for throwing opportunities during the summer. I know of a college Senior who will be throwing BP to my TB team this summer. If they can hit her they should be able to hit anyone. :)

Sorry, last thing.

There is usally a reason a P is willing to pitch, they are not very good.

Whole thing will fall apart if pitching is no good. Unless you know pitchers you need backup plan.

Like riseball mentioned a collage player or an adult, something.

Your on to something there. I would say the p vs h "tourney" would have to be skill matched. P elite will get nothing from pitching to rec girls H or vice versa.

Absolutely agree. Details "See how she's on the chalk a little do xyz" "ok you missed x that's ok go here now because abc".

I agree that that it would be important to get a group that is comparable in skill. Which means you probably need to be in a well populated area because players aren't going to drive a long ways for something in the middle of the week.
